Chief John Crelly
In honor of International Firefighters Day on May 4, a salute to retired Golden Valley Fire Chief John Crelly, who recently hung up his pager after 42 years of service.
The 515 team, including founder and GV firefighter Ian Planchon, was honored to create this video to tell the story of his extraordinary career as a leader and public servant.
We also want to congratulate Golden Valley's new fire chief, Bethany Brunsell, who recently became the 3rd female fire chief in Minnesota's history. Nationally, less than 10% of firefighters are women. We appreciate her service and for inspiring more women to follow her lead.

Ben Gravy surfing Lake Superior
Lake Superior contains 10% of Earth's freshwater, and it is one of the fastest warming lakes in the world.
Scientists at the UMD Large Lakes Observatory at University of Minnesota Duluth are on the frontlines of researching the impact of climate change on this precious resource. If you're looking for a place to donate this Earth Month, your money would go directly towards this important work.
This video shows pro surfer Ben Gravy surfing Lake Superior in 2022. Because it is the largest lake in the world by surface area, the right wind conditions can generate up to 25-foot waves, making Minnesota's North Shore look like Oahu's North Shore. It is a sight to behold.
