Early Saturday morning update from Chief Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek tracking Tropical Storm Ophelia:
9:10p UPDATE - Tropical Storm Ophelia
9:10p UPDATE - Tropical Storm Ophelia: Chief Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek is tracking the latest on Ophelia as heavy rain and wind are expected to increase tonight across Delmarva.
WILDFIRE SMOKE: This time it's from fires in central and northern Ontario in Canada. Lighter amounts of smoke will move through Delmarva this evening. Light to moderate smoke will continue to impact Washington, Baltimore, and Richmond areas through early Friday morning.
Wildfire smoke from eastern Canada will affect Delmarva through Wednesday afternoon, but it should be less concentrated with air quality a bit improved from a westerly breeze.
BEACH FORECAST: Still not a great day on the sand Thursday, clouds will be stubborn to break until later in the afternoon.
NOAA is predicting a near-average Atlantic Hurricane season with two competing variables at play this summer. An expected El Nino will work against formation and above-average sea temperatures which will promote development.
5-23 Tuesday Forecast: Lots of sun again, but an easterly breeze will keep temperatures cooler
Heading to OC Cruisin' this weekend? Be prepared for some showers and a possible storm:
Friday 5-19: Clouds on the increase, rain chances at night and for the weekend
5-16: Showers possible Tuesday later in the day, increasing chance for rain at night
Get the walk in early on Saturday - rain chances increase into the afternoon:
Summer-like for your Friday!
Wednesday out-the-door forecast!
4/30 - Another round of storms will impact all of Delmarva this evening, with a severe threat and flooding concerns:
Friday Evening Update: More rain (Some of the weekend looks good, though!)
FRIDAY SOAKER: Much needed rain is headed back to Delmarva to end the week. Winds will pick up along coastal areas throughout the day.
FRIDAY WASHOUT: A chilly rain with temps in the 40s through the afternoon. Milder air arrives in the evening with the chance of a few storms.
COLDER & WET TUESDAY: A cold front will bring scattered showers Tuesday morning and into the afternoon. Some wet snow may mix in at times in northern Delmarva, but no accumulation is expected with just wet roads. A second shot of moisture may bring a coating of snow early Wednesday morning.
EVENING UPDATE: Heavy rain and even some thunder! It won't last too much longer into the evening before drier weather settles in behind the storm system, although some showers will still be possible late. The wind along the coast (map showing wind gusts) will continue to be high with coastal flooding possible. Tomorrow, behind the system, winds will switch out of the west and will still be gusty at times.
BIG STORM THURSDAY: For a few hours before sunrise, some sleet may fall as temperatures will be hovering near freezing, especially for areas west of Hwy US-13. Mild air off of the ocean will push temps well above freezing later in the morning and a low pressure system will approach the area bringing a soaking rain. The wind will pick up along the coast with potential coastal flooding.
