Storm conditions have hampered a good local striper bite fueled by bunker and sand eels, and bottom fishermen pick away at blackfish, sea bass, triggerfish and porgies.

Instead of implementing new regulatory changes, the Commission will establish a Working Group to guide the future of striped bass management beyond 2029.

As part of a series of emergency regulations, the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries will allow only fishermen who held a commercial striped bass permit in 2024 or 2025 to participate in the fishery in 2026.

Even when properly equipped for big surf with cleats, a dry top, and a tightly cinched belt, as this angler was, a big wave can catch you off guard.

When fishing storm conditions, always go with a buddy, gear up for the conditions, and never take your eye off the next wave.
