BREAKING NEWS!
Ken Wilkinson, of Fire in the Sky, has announced that the Kremmling fireworks will not be presented by his company. Wilkinson cites safety considerations for his family and crew.
Fire in the Sky is a local fireworks company which is family owned and operated. After last year's show at the alternative site, Wilkinson brought safety concerns to the Town of Kremmling as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) permit holder for the fireworks.
Wilkinson's choreographed fireworks display is intended for a 600 foot space in the main area of the cliffs. The alternative site at the west end of the cliff only has a workable space of 100 feet and puts his Fire in the Sky crew too close to the edge -- especially in an emergency. Wilkinson's company has been doing the Kremmling fireworks since 2011, but he began doing fireworks in 2001 with the Kremmling Fire Department when they originally did the fireworks.
The west end of the cliffs has been the alternative site since 2016 when concerns over the nesting eagles were first brought forward. However, the main area of the cliffs has been the location for Kremmling's fireworks since the 70's -- much of this time was when eagles were nesting. This year, the nest has two eaglets one of which has already flown the nest.
In addition to being the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) permit owner, the Town of Kremmling is also the funding entity for the fireworks. This year, the Town budgeted $17,000 dollars for fireworks.
Wilkinson is optimistic about next year's show. He has already planned a follow up meeting with the BLM for July 6 in preparation for next year. For now, he hopes everyone can join Fire Up the Sky at the Granby arena on July 3, and that folks still come to the Town Square on the 4th for other festivities.

Local photographer, Connie Chamberlain, recently wowed us with this submission.
She writes, "This black bear wandered away from her forest home and found herself high in a tree in the heart of a Kremmling neighborhood. I watched as the Colorado Parks and Wildlife skillfully and safely evacuated her and subsequently transported back to her wooded environs. A happy ending for a little, lost bear!" (6/4/23)
