The Osage City Library is creating a “care cupboard” for individuals who have a need.
The Care Cupboard has the following items: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, razors, denture cleaner, shampoo and conditioner, soap, body wash, deodorant, feminine pads, tampons and bladder pads for women and men.
The library received a grant from the Northeast Kansas Library System to create the Care Cupboard. The library will accept donations of items and monetary donations to keep the cupboard stocked after the grant money has been depleted.

LYNDON, Kan. – The Northeast Kansas Regional Notification System reported at 1:26 p.m. July 19, 2024, that officials in the Lyndon, Kan., and surrounding area are looking for a missing person who has physical or emotional disabilities.

Officials are searching for Shemaiyah, a 28-year-old white male, described as 5’2” tall and weighing 100 lbs., with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue jeans. There currently is an increased police presence in the area. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of or sees Shemaiyah is asked to call 911 immediately.

The Kansas Department of Transportation has announced a chip seal project that will begin next week in Lyon and Osage counties. The project covers approximately 21 miles of state Highway 170, from the state Highway 99 junction, west of Reading, to the southern city limit of Osage City.

For EAST CENTRAL KANSAS AREA AGENCY ON AGING

The East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging (ECKAAA) is seeking bid proposals for an annual audit of the ECKAAA, 117 S. Main, Ottawa, KS. 66067, for each of four (4) fiscal years; 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027.

Leticia Rust, of Emporia State University, and director of the university’s cybersecurity research and outreach center, will give the presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Osage County Senior Center, 604 Market St., Osage City, Kan.

Sunflowers will be blooming in “the great outdoors” in Melvern this weekend. The Osage County community will be celebrating its annual Sunflower Days Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 14-16, 2024. This year’s parade theme will be “The Great Outdoors”; the parade begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, with line-up at the school grounds.

History becomes hidden for many reasons. At times it is because the person or event is surrounded by some shame. Attempts to suppress the shame cuts that part of an individual’s story out of the historical record. Living in a small, rural community amplified any shame a person had because town gossip mills could and still can be devastating.

KDHE deems Quenemo’s water system no longer at risk of contamination
Kansas Department of Health and Environment has rescinded a boil water advisory for the city of Quenemo public water supply system located in Osage County. The advisory was issued April 8 because of a line break resulting in a loss of pressure in the system.

Osage County’s voters included 142 Democrats and 662 Republicans, for a total of 804 votes cast in the election, or 6.6 percent of the county’s 12,191 registered voters.

Quenemo, here we boil again!
After the city being under a days-long boil water advisory this month, that order was rescinded this morning only to be reinstated a few hours later. Around noon today, March 15, 2024, Kansas Department of Health and Environment again issued a boil water advisory for the city of Quenemo public water supply system due to a utility contractor accidentally breaking a water line.
