In going through some old files to clean up my computer, this video came up. I don't remember making the video but apparently I did and now I'm crying.

This is our adoption profile book from 2012. Since that time we have adopted 2 children and went through fertility treatments to have a 3rd. Our life is now full, but in the moment of making this video, we felt empty. To those who are trying to conceive - however you plan on becoming a parent, remember that the work you do on yourself in this moment will prepare you for the work it takes to be a parent. Receiving children doesn't replace the sadness of infertility - and it shouldn't. Infertility was a trauma that almost took my marriage and my life. The children were not my cure, but they have made my life more fulfilling and worthwhile. I am still angry I had to go through so much to become a mother, but I will never regret the work I put in to become THEIR mother.

This is our profile from 2012. Since that time we have adopted 2 children and went through fertility treatments to have a 3rd. Our life is full, but in the m...

In the latest episode of Raising Grace podcast, we dive into the complexities and themes of adoption with an adoptive parent who shares their journey. Here are three key takeaways from the episode:

- Emotional relationships require sustained effort in setting boundaries and maintaining them.
- Adoptees can respond to a "primal wound" caused by adoption through rebellion or people-pleasing, and parenting tailored to their uniqueness can help them develop introspection and attunement skills.
- The current adoption narrative needs to expand beyond the fairy tale idea and embrace all of the emotions, including the tragedy and grief.

She emphasized the importance of empathy, understanding that children are smart and should be communicated with, rather than solely expected to obey.

2๏ธโƒฃ Navigating Judgment: Viviana courageously opened up about feeling judged by family, friends, and even her husband for her parenting approach. Despite this, she shared her commitment to vulnerability and empathy towards her children's emotions, while still maintaining necessary boundaries.

3๏ธโƒฃ The Vitality of Self-Care: Viviana highlighted the significance of prioritizing self-care as a parent. Through therapy, she discovered the importance of taking time for herself, challenging societal stereotypes, and connecting with like-minded individuals who support her journey.

On this episode of Raising Grace Podcast, we have the privilege of speaking with Gabrielle Crichlow, the owner and director of A Step Ahead Tutoring Services. Gabrielle shares her journey from being born in Trinidad and Tobago to moving to the United States, and how her experiences in the American education system shaped her perspective on school. Gabrielle discusses the differences she noticed between the American and Trinidadian education systems, from date formats to spelling variations. She opens up about her parents' generation, who view school as simpler back in their day, and the challenges they perceive in today's education system. School-related issues, such as low self-esteem, anger, and yelling from parents, are plaguing many students. As an educator and tutor, Gabrielle's role is to help students navigate these challenges and understand the importance of education. While she acknowledges that not all students will love school, she teaches them to view it as important and helps them set and achieve their own goals. Did you know that eczema may be an early sign of food allergies in infants? According to recent studies, infants with eczema are more likely to develop food allergies, especially if they have a family history of allergies. For Austin Andersen, a mother of allergy kiddos, eczema was the first sign that her daughter had allergies. "Her eczema started the day we brought her home from the hospital," she said. As a parent, it's important to be aware of potential signs of allergies and to seek medical advice if you have any concerns.

Don't we all have self doubt as mothers? I know I do. The many mom friends I've had over the years have also expressed self doubt. I think that is just a natural part of being a mother. Are we doing enough? Too much? In a counseling session the other day my therapist said to me, the fact that you are worried tells me that you are doing a good job. Maybe worry is just part of the mom-game. Some days we just need to give ourselves a little grace and like Jessica says... realize we are all pretty freaking great!
