And then there was one. The board of trustees announced that a second candidate for president of the university had withdrawn his name for consideration.

One candidate for president of FGCU remains after two others withdrew their names in the past week. The university's Board of Trustees will meet as scheduled on the presidential selection on Thursday.

The amount of construction, demolition, and horticultural debris produced by in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties so far is just a shade below six million cubic yards...and the debris piles keep growing.

Lee County has collected 3 million cubic yards of debris from Hurricane Ian with Collier and Charlotte counties combined collecting about the same amount.

As barreled over western Cuba toward the Gulf of Mexico, counties on the Southwest Gulf Coast of had their emergency management plans at the ready. But a close look at ’s plan reveals that its evacuation orders, issued just one day before the Category 4 storm made landfall, emphasized efficiency and cost rather than caution.

In 2010 the Southwest Florida county changed from a ‘Just in Case’ to a ‘Just in Time’ protocol for emergency management to avoid “over-evacuation.” The protocol was followed -- with potentially deadly consequences.

Julie Glenn, 50, news director for WGCU Public Media and an Estero resident, died Saturday in Bonita Springs after a progression of glioblastoma.
