Annoying Humming Noise in Randolph,
Since September there has a been a low frequency noise/vibration on Misty Mountain road and surrounding neighborhood - like an overhead plane or distant truck , but lower frequency and pulsing - comes and goes but most often worse at night starting around 730-9PM through morning
Hearing was checked and meets standards (though they do not test for exceptional or low frequency ability) Not tinnitus
Causing anxiety, stress, sleeplessness and headaches
Most people cannot hear it but recently we have learned that some others around Shongum Lake can now hear it and are suffering like us.
We are using a software program REW and microphone to track. 10 to 40 Hz frequency with a 5 to 15 db difference but have not been able to find the source. We checked with PSE&G, JCP&L, checked water lines. We had JCP&L cut the power to our house but it was still there.
We are now thinking it might be an RF signal from a cell tower that perhaps got upgraded or had its power increased (Shongum Lake area was notorious for low signal strength.
Response from the town health department has been very disappointing. (If it cannot be heard by all, then there is no statute to enforce) - not bothering to come to the house to listen or suggest any contacts to call or equipment. Getting responses has been slow and required follow up (in person).
So today I emailed the whole council as well as the town manager and we'll be going to the council meeting 5/9 6PM to reiterate the problem and ask for some real effort to investigate this issue.
Plenty of towns have had small environmental issues only noticed by a few that eventually became a crisis because they were ignored.
If you are also hearing / feeling this noise, please comment, let us know where in town you are, when it started and please join us at the council meeting Thursday 5/9 or Dept of Health 5/17 7pm
Thank you.
