The August issue of Up Portland is out now online and will be in all the usual stands around Southwest Maine by the end of Tuesday. So, what’s inside? Our food reviewer has a real, genuine fish & chips shop here in Portland in his sights this issue, and you will need eagle eyes to see which of three plates of food he’s posted photos of are the local version, which is a pub in the UK and which onboard the pub on Queen Mary 2. Also in the new issue, check out Bryce’s look at surfing at the Olympics, Hot Dog Mark shares his past snowshoe adventures with readers (Yes… in August!) and Emma, our adventure columnist tells what it’s like to swim from Peaks Island to Portland during the annual race (and get beat by her mom by a few 10ths of a second and her boyfriend by a long way, since he finished 2nd for his age group and in the top 20!) Legal beagle Marshall explains why a president claims to be above the law and Portland Connections connects the corner of Temple & Federal streets from almost 200 years ago to the present day version. All this and a lot more are in the new Up Portland. Grab one tomorrow, or today at

Spring is finally here Up Portland readers and that means our June edition is now online at www.upportland.com and will be on the streets of Southwest Maine on Tuesday & Wednesday this week. What’s inside? Well, Brews & Chews reviewer Nick went to Novare Res and sipped some Belleflower beers, too. Meanwhile the computer column is on an armchair trip with websites to visit for live cams of ships, ports, airports and more travel sites. Meanwhile, Feelin Swell’s Bryce tells how he ended up with the surfing column’s pen (along with co-writer Shane Moore) and Bryce’s partner, Maggie says use prevention or you will get ticked off by ticks this Summer! Our restaurant reviewer heads back to Scales after years away, and Emma has some great Northern Lights photos. Speaking of great, Chuck is out at Short Sands with his lens focused on the great surfers and friend of the paper, Kerry MacDonald got us an awesome cover shot at Biddeford Pool. The September edition of Up Portland will be on the streets of Southwest Maine and on the web by day’s end... and here’s what you will find inside our September edition...

Our food writer heads to Scarborough to check out a Korean-Irish restaurant. Yep, that’s right. They have bangers and mash and Bibimbap along with all the American fare you could want on their large menu at O’Reilly’s Cure Restaurant and Bar, so it’s well-worth a try. Meanwhile, our surfing column looks at the peaceful and romantic aspects of the sport, Maggie, in her fitness column looks at the physical importance of getting out with friends, fisherman Jack has to fish late in the day as many Maine fish refuse to get close to the surface in these hot dog days of late summer and computer columnist Ted reminds of the importance of updates and talks a bit about the Apple watch and its ability to be a life-saver if you live alone. And we have our Standard Reviewer’s look at Westworld (not good!) and adventurer Charlotte climbs Washington’s Mount Rainier (complete with a cool-down after a hot walk in a snow pile left from last Winter!) It’s all out now in print and online at www.upportland.com and best of all, it’s FREE!

Maggie gives some hot weather exercise tips; Charlotte goes rock climbing in France and fisherman Jack casts his line for striped Bass. Add in our updates on restaurants (new menus, shorter hours and a whole lot more) and our game reviewer looks at Stray. It’s all out now online and on paper in the brand new Up Portland.

The July issue of Up Portland is half out but should be fully on the streets of southwest Maine by late Tuesday the 5th. It's also online now to read at www.upportland.com So what will you find? Well, Shane looks at a local group called the Ideal Maine Social Sanctuary Band which plays great tunes all over for fun and entertainment; our computer guy delves into those hidden charges for foreign transactions places like PayPal tack on to internet orders which process outside the U.S. and Charlotte takes her travels to Spain as she heads out for a year of Eusopean adventures. Shane explains the finer points of surfboard fins, the restaurant guy was off on a trip that got cancelled, but that did not stop him from dining in and writing about restaurants in Connecticut, Delaware and Virginia. In addition, Maggie explains why having a dog can be great for your mental and physical health, Wine guy Dan extols the beach life and what to drink on it in South Carolina and Jack turns out the lights and goes Maine night fishing. Add Abbie's taste of Maine story about a true down east resort called Weatherby's and Randy's reviews and you got a great read in the July Up Portland.

The June Up Portland is on the web at www.upportland.com and the dead tree edition will be on the streets of Southwest Maine by the end of today... So what's inside? First off, we say a fond farewell to Forecaster Jack, who is now, after graduating from Cornell University last weekend, Meteorologist Jack. Congrats to him and we will miss his daily forecasts and monthly columns, though he has promised a Winter outlook each year and some occasional other observations, so he's neither gone nor forgotten. By the way, he is the last of our original crew, having written for every issue! Aside from that, Fisherman Jack tells about the Smelt Run, our food reviewer heads over to outer Congress Street to try Maria's and Bryce, our surfer, has a new "ding" on his board but came up with a neat bicycle-towed way to get it and his other gear around and to the beach. In addition, the computer column looks at things which work, but with difficulty (fiddly is his term for it), Maggie looks thru some polarized sunglasses (and says you should, too) and Wing Guy Dan talks about the different tastes of grapes grown with and without irrigation. Add in our TV and film reviews and Charlotte's adventures and you got a great read!

The May Up Portland is out... online as of now at www.upportland.com and during the day today on paper in Southwest Maine: from Kittery to Bath. So what's inside? Catch our pages (pun intended) for the debut of Jackson Baumann's new Maine fishing column, look for Jack's weather column (all about late season frosts, which when they come in May are often the death of the fall fruit season) and our restaurant column looks at a lot of changes on the food front --- from a new Thai restaurant coming soon to a zany spot for all-day breakfasts on Franklin Street opening in July. There's also Shane's Oddments where he tries to explain a new phenomenon known as disc golf, and Maggie's well-being (ahhhh-choo!) is all about seasonal allergies. We have our usual regulars, too, so Shane talks about how to even find a spot to surf "in season" and our wine columnist, who is more a "whine columnist" this issue asks what we have all been drinking from Italy. It's all out now in May's Up Portland.

The April edition of Up Portland is (or will be) on the streets and online by the end of Tuesday... and inside our enlarged 32-page edition, you will find new and old writers alike. Join us for Hot Dog Mark’s description of his worst-ever day at the stand, look at Ted’s computer column to find out what to do when your device’s Lithium-Ion battery rolls over and expires; and check out wine guy Dan’s look at a long-awaited return to normal in the wine biz. Also, surfer Bryce asks what your chances are of being bitten or eaten in Maine by a shark while riding the waves; Maggie stretches to discuss why you should stretch, too, and two of our columnists (Charlotte and Abbie) look at both sides to the end of Winter: Charlotte goes for a final Spring ski and mourns Winter’s passing and Abbie is there counting down to Summer helping some of the docks on Casco Bay get set for their sailors. In between all this, our crossword returns, our food columnist gets their “just desserts” and we tell you about the wonderful new Maine Museum of Photographic Arts as well as a new disc golf league. All that plus a whole lot more (and all free!) on news stands and in stores and coffee shops all over southwest Maine by the time the sun sets Tuesday and right now online at www.upportland.com

It's that time, and today is delivery for the dead tree edition of Up Portland, but if you read the e-edition, head right over to www.upportland.com and get an early look at all we have going in the March edition. Inside, you will find two brand new columns: One, on Page Six, is called Oddments & Observations, and is penned by our long-time surfing writer Shane Moore. Check out the first edition in this paper and be set to be dazzled with a new aspect of reporting Shane brings. Oh, and he’s not hanging up his wetsuit or surfboard, either, so look for him to continue to share that column with Bryce O’Brien, too.

Brand new to this paper is Abbie Ryer, who writes a column called Getting Personal, you'll find on Page eight. It’s all about life as a college student , and this month one who suddenly finds they have COVID-19.

Along with all that, we have our restaurant reviewer looking at an old friend with great Chinese eats; Charlotte and her dad take their dog on a mountain hike in the snow and Forecaster Jack asks "when does Spring really begin?" There are a lot of answers. Add in computer info on cloud storage, a gaming veiew by Randy, wine suggestions from Dan and we have a great paper, all out today!

Meanwhile, our food reviewer headed to Freeport and Bow Street Market and looked at a long list of eateries with changed hours and "breaks" in these off-season days. In addition, Maggie talks about defeating "Winter blues" and Forecaster Jack and his partner, Charlotte, take us in to the centre of the recent Nor'Easter which scored a direct hit on Cape Cod. It was a cold, cold day, but Up Portland is now delivered in Southwest Maine. If you'd rather stay warm & dry, it's also online at www.upportland.com What will you find? Well to get the best food from the East, head South our reviewer says --- to East Restaurant in Wells. Meanwhile, Charlotte is skiing the Rockies, Forecaster Jack discusses freezing rain (It's a slick article!) and wine man Dan says he has nothing to write about after breaking the bottle of Greek wine he intended to review (hint: do not believe him as it's a great column!). Just a few minutes ago I came out from doing the last of the November Up Portland deliveries up at Alliance Physical Therapy at Martin's Point and could not help but notice the setting sun. While there are a few days to go till the shortest day of the year, this week has the earliest sunset times (today 4.04 p.m.) After you are done looking at the photo, be sure to check out the new Up Portland, which is on the streets of Southwest Maine and online at www.upportland.com In this edition I look at some electronic holiday gifts, Maggie gives some outdoor clothing hints for cold Winter weather, wine expert Dan shares his personal highlights of 2021 and we get in a meal at the Muddy Rudder. There's also an explanation by Forecaster Jack of the ways low pressures impact us here in Maine (rain, snow, neither or both?), and Charlotte and her mum take their energetic pup mountain climbing. Add in hot dog man Mark, who discusses fishing in Maine and our Standard Reviewer, who says some shows are too short but have too many episodes. It's all out now online and in the usual spots. Happy reading and enjoy these wonderful long nights!

the November editions of Up Portland are now out, both online and in print. We had a great delivery day (afterall, what could be more fun that driving around as the last of the Autumn leaves turn and breaking for lunch at Harraseeket Inn?) What's in the November issue? Well, Forecaster Jack has his Winter outlook, complete with a ton of graphs, maps and charts; I look at some wonderful programmes to tune into on-line radio programming (all for free and legal!) and our travel writer heads for Milwaukee to check out beers and motorbikes. In addition, our surfer Shane looks at waxes, wetsuits and more as the water in Maine is now in the mid-50s and going down and Charlotte & friends head for the hills to go apple picking. Wine guy Dan has ten random thoughts for November (Including some about an upcoming champage shortage, yikes!) and our reviewer heads to Freepoort for a taste of what will be on offer Thanksgiving Day at Harraseeket Inn's wonderful buffet... back after a two year absence. Add to all that Owl's Head astrology, Randy's reviews and this is a must read. You can find it in all the usual spots in Southwest Maine in our print edition, and online from anywhere and everywhere at www.upportland.com
