Kelsey and I have been friends since we were little 10 year old animal freaks together. She was my rock throughout my pregnancy and I was so honored to have her support me at Jett’s birth last month.
Finding out that she was pregnant partway through my pregnancy was the most magical news as we imagined our babies growing up together! A few weeks ago she shared with me the devastating news from their 20 week ultrasound that their baby girl has an open neural tube defect- a super rare condition where her spinal cord has an opening that is exposing nerves that, among other things, can effect her mobility.
They are considering fetal surgery (which if you’re like me and didn’t even know that was a thing, they can do surgery on the baby while it’s still in the womb and it’s absolutely incredible!) which would require their family to fly down to Houston for several weeks and inevitably will incur huge unexpected expenses.
