Local thrift store find for 20 cents: I Wanna be a Train Engineer, hosted by Steve Pool, Seattle TV personality. Lots of railfan footage and cab views of BN, Washington Dinner Train, Mt Rainier Scenic, both diesel and steam. Features railroaders Neal Prenovost, Floyd Johnson and Bob Harbison, c. 1995. Frank Latraverse, you were just a wannabe railroader then!

Recovered some long lost video I shot from the DV cassette days. Interesting locos (SD45-2, SD60) and paint schemes make up for the quality loss of "oldtime" video. But, you know, we thought it was great in 2006!

Going away shot of an empty grainer passing through Tokio, Washington. Busy on this line this afternoon. Almost at the same time there was a southbound coal train at Sprague, a southbound manifest at Tokio and a northbound coal train at Tokio/Ritzville.

Any explanation for both north and southbound coal here? Both were loads and in the hole for other trains.

April 2, 2022: Most products are back in stock and available for purchase online or mail order. Due to material cost increases, prices have gone up about 15%. This is the first increase in our twenty year history, but our costs have been gradually inching up all along. Recent increases, though, have...

Map books are back in stock! Well, most of them... California, Illinois and Texas are being reviewed for updates before sending them off to the printers. Watch this space for announcements of their availability.
Oh, I should mention: after 20 years, we've had to institute our first price increase. Our costs have been inching up over the years but they really took a dramatic increase recently. A price adjustment thus became necessary if Sonrisa was to continue to exist.
Thanks for your support!

You may have heard of paper shortages.... We have been out of paper for the last 4 weeks or so. Happily I finally located some in Portland (150 mile drive one way). Unhappily it cost 50% more than it did last year, which cost 15% more than the previous year. Again, unhappily, I will need to raise prices. Stay tuned on that.

In other news, on my way back I stopped at Kalama for a break and managed to get a shot of the coveted "stickers" unit. Does that mean I am a real railfan photographer now?😁

Big change to those of you living outside the United States. We are no longer able to ship internationally, due primarily to the unpredictable nature of shipping rates. Rates can vary from 50% to over 100% of product value with no certainty that tomorrow's cost will be the same.

Rates have been going up for some time but, as I found out today, they took a HUGE jump in 2022. Many international shipments I made last year ended up being at cost, which, obviously I can't afford to continue doing. Making matters worse is the Post Office's inability to determine future rates due to the inner workings of the countries involved. So for now, at least, we have to suspend international shipments.

Another use for Sonrisa's Railroad Maps...

We have a toner cartridge en route from a warehouse in New Jersey. It's been taking FedEx awhile to get here. On tracking it today it's course has included St Paul, MN; Tioga, ND; Essex, MT; and Lamona, WA. Somehow I don't think an over the road truck would be on State Route 28 west of Spokane instead of I-90...
