CoronaVirus with Dr. Joe Nieusma, Toxicologist - Superior Technology
Today we speak with Dr. Joe Nieusma of Superior Toxicology about the CoronaVirus (Covid-19).
What is it?
Coronavirus: a type of common virus that infects humans, typically leading to an upper respiratory infection (URI.) Seven different types of human coronavirus have been identified. Most people will be infected with at least one type of coronavirus in their lifetime. The viruses are spread through the air by coughing and sneezing, close personal contact, touching an object or surface contaminated with the virus and rarely, by fecal contamination. The illness caused by most coronaviruses usually lasts a short time and is characterized by runny nose, sore throat, feeling unwell, cough, and fever.
Dr. Nieusma is our fearless CEO/Chief Toxicologist here at Superior Toxicology & Wellness, an international scientific consulting firm that he founded. Dr. Nieusma is also a co-founder for TwinOxide North America, a company working to improve water quality in all aspects of life from municipal treatment plants to livestock operations. TwinOxide removes all carcinogens from treated water and is the right thing to do.
Dr. Nieusma is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Vitro Biopharma, a firm that brings new stem-cell related products for diabetes research to scientific, pharmaceutical, and ultimately medical markets. Dr. Nieusma is also on the editorial staff for the peer-reviewed scientific journal, Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods, published by Informa Healthcare.
The Environmental Learning Center with Heather Kramer and Yak's Been Thinkn'
The Environmental Learning Center was founded in 1988 by a group of environmentally conscious pioneers from the Pelican Island Audubon Society, who lived in our community and cherished the nature that thrives in the Indian River Lagoon. Through the support of our community, donors, members, board, staff and volunteers we are able to build our educational nature learning and stewardship programs and evolve our mission to bring nature to all including those with limited means and access to nature. They had a mission to preserve a beautiful, unspoiled 64-acre Indian River Lagoon island and create a place to lead educational programs and EcoAdventures which teach our visitors about the rich biodiversity of our Indian River Lagoon and the importance of its heritage, preservation and continued legacy in our community and in our world.
Heather Kramer has been using the out-of-doors as a classroom and a place of inspiration for over ten years, believing there is a firm connection between science and art. Finding relevance in the patterns and cycles that nature presents, she emphasizes these foundations through hands-on, art-based learning opportunities both for herself and students of all ages. She works to create educational pieces that connect the communities to their local ecosystems.
