When I first started filming events I was constantly running around looking like my head was cut off🤣 I was so afraid of missing something and kept trying to film every single detail. I thought that's what I need to do to fully get the whole experience. But in reality I was spending so much time in post going through all the footage that I was just miserable and couldn't stay consistent with my work

Here are a few tips I learned along my journey I hope this helps

First: Know your call to action for the event. Yes you want to capture people having a good time but what really is the message behind the event. Is it raise money? Community Awareness? Once you figure out the answer you will start having a better picture of the whole event.

Second: Show up early!!! Get there before the crowd gets there! Its so important to get yourself familiar with the venue and so you can get different shots of the venue for Broll. Its so much easier getting the shots in the begining instead of coming back.

Third: SHOT LIST! SHOT LIST! SHOT LIST! I can't stress this enough. It's so important to have, even if you think you don't need it. Trust me you are going to need it! Event days are hectic and anything can happen. Your client might special request filming certain moments or you completly drew a blank (It has happen to me) . This will save you so much time especially when editing

When I first started filming in studios I was nervous as hell. I learned so much on the go and just lead with confidence when I didn't know how to do something. 🤣
Here are some mistakes I did. Hope you learn from me 😳
1️⃣ Poor Lighting Choices:
One common mistake is improper lighting, which can make or break your shoot. Avoid harsh shadows, overexposure, or unflattering angles by using the right equipment and positioning your lights effectively. Take the time to plan your lighting setup thoroughly before hitting that record button. Experiment with different setups to achieve the desired mood and tone for your project

2️⃣ Neglecting Sound Quality:
While studios can provide a controlled acoustic environment, failing to invest in quality microphones and audio equipment can result in poor sound quality. Avoid picking up unwanted background noise, echo, or muffling by using the right microphones and ensuring they are positioned correctly. Always monitor your audio levels and consider using external audio recording devices to capture crisp, clear sound. Not everything can be fixed in post fix it in the present!!

3️⃣ Ignoring the Set and Props:
It's easy to focus so much on the actors and equipment that the set design and props get overlooked. Neglecting these elements can hinder the overall quality of your production. Be sure to thoroughly plan and arrange the set to match the vision of your project. Avoid clutter and distractions that can divert the audience's attention. Take the time to rehearse the placement of props and the arrangement of the set for each scene, ensuring consistency throughout the shoot.

It's important to remember that its not the end of the world if you make a mistake, ask for help and keep your head up
