Siesta Sand is a monthly newspaper mailed to the residential routes on Siesta Key and covers the coastline on the mainland, Sarasota. This publication was introduced in January 2012, and complements Siesta Key’s Island Visitor by providing more stories and articles of interest to both visitors and locals. Our goal is to provide something of interest for first time visitors, snowbirds, and locals alike.

🌀Captain Curt's Hurricane Relief Program - Crab Strong🌀

After being hit hard by Helene and Milton we’re working tirelessly to reopen Captain Curt's Village. Customers and friends of Captain Curt's have been asking how they can help.

We put together a program to sell hurricane relief shirts to help our hourly staff with supporting their families and other financial burden associated with these devastating hurricanes.

100% of profits from the sale of these shirts will be equally dispersed to all of our hourly staff members. Neither our salaried staff nor the corporation will receive any of proceeds from the sale of the shirts.

Our staff has been crucial in the recovery efforts, and now we're giving you a chance to give back. Help support the heart of our restaurant - our amazing crew! 💙

YOUR CHANCE TO EXPRESS YOUR GRATITUDE!

Dear Siesta Key residents and visitors:
We believe it’s fair to say that very few people managed to deal with the impact of the hurricanes without a helping hand. And, in true Siesta style, we came through for one another in glorious fashion.
The stories of generosity and even bravery are countless. And now, we want to share them with the world while paying tribute to those who deserve some recognition (or at least a pat on the back and a simple “thank you”).
In our upcoming November issue of the Siesta Sand newspaper, we intend to list small-but-meaningful words of gratitude in vignette form in what will be a special presentation.
Call it a “Shoutout Central” community bulletin board, if you will.
And all acts of kindness qualify.
Let’s face it, assistance with the charging of a dead cell phone was a big deal during this crisis. Better yet, many residents invited first-floor victims into their second-floor living quarters. And the stories of cleaning help are endless.
Then there are those who conducted actual rescues of people who were trapped as water poured in.
The selflessness was provided by friends, by acquaintances, and often by complete strangers.
Are you associated with an extremely compelling Helene-related or Milton-related story that truly needs to be heard? In this case, we want you to reach out to us for a possible news article. Or, you can put together and email us a first-person account in your own words — please understand we have the right to edit it and we ask that you limit it to six paragraphs. Include your headshot and a photo that illustrates the report, if possible.
Either way, we want to hear from you. Those who stepped up and delivered deserve a Siesta salute!

Our show was supposed to debut this week. It’s on hold as we regroup on Siesta Key, and we can’t wait to celebrate all of our incredible resiliency when the time is right. Here’s a message from co-host Natalie Gutwein:

Folks, here it comes. And there’s no stopping us now! Siesta Sand and Captain Curt’s Village are partnering for a weekly video “talk show” of sorts that showcases the newsmakers, businesses, and lifestyle here on Siesta Key. It will be as much informative as it is fun! It debuts at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Sniki Tiki stage, located at 1200 Old Stickney Point Rd. John Morton from the Siesta Sand and Natalie Gutwein of both the Siesta Key Association civic group and the Judie Berger Team (real estate) will serve as hosts. It will feature guests with viewpoints, insights, and great stories to tell. You are welcome to attend! Grab a cup of Captain Curt’s coffee and join us for the in-person exchange. Also, please visit our Siesta Sand Live page and give it a “like” and a following. We also have a YouTube channel of the same name. OK, enough yapping! We’ll save it for the show.
