The work to repair a broken water main along the Manatee Avenue (SR 64) bridge to Anna Maria Island has progressed significantly enough to avoid the need to close a lane Friday, June 30, as originally expected.
Contractors have installed the new pipe in Phase One of the repair. The new pipe is being tested and is expected to be in service the week of July 3. There will be no lane closures over the weekends or during the week of July 3.
Phase Two, which involves securing additional hangers to support the watermain pipe on the east side of the bridge, is not expected to start for several weeks due to material availability. Lane closures are expected during this phase, and more information will be provided as those repairs commence. Construction equipment will remain onsite as the contractor will need to remove the old water pipe that fell into Anna Maria Sound. It is not anticipated that this work—which may begin as early as the week of July 10—will require lane closures on Manatee Avenue.
