To my human moms & dads, this is what happens to my paws when you take me out in the scorching sun ☀️ when the pavement is so hot !

Remember I sweat through my paws, so in this heat I can’t get rid of my sweat as my paws are burning. Missing my walk won’t harm me. Please let me just relax indoors and take me out when the sun is down🐾

If you see someone walking their dog on hot pavement, ask them to take off their shoes for the remainder of their walk home. Maybe then they'll understand.

Thank you to 8 Below Husky Rescue for this valuable advice 🙏

ADOPTED!
Coco_A220635
10 Years, Spayed Female
Brown Brindle Dachshund Mix

OBSERVED BY SHELTER STAFF:
Coco is such as sweetheart. She will follow you wherever you go. She loves treats and is gentle when taking them; she’ll bark for more, too! She’s a big on the chubby side at 40 pounds and has some mild arthritis in her legs. She has a mild interest in toys, appears house trained and doesn’t mind other dogs or cats. The shelter isn’t a place for this sweet girl to be spending her senior years. She needs a quiet, loving home where she can relax.

Weighs 40 pounds; $25 to adopt.

***** I have been adopted ****

For your consideration of adoption, we present, Kevin!
He was found running around SR7, but after no one recognizing him, we got him cleaned up at the groomers so that he's one step closer to finding a home! He does need to be neutered still but while we are working on setting up an appointment for that, Kevin let us know he'd love to have some meet and greets!
We think he's around 2-3 years old, he gets along with other dogs big or small and does great at the groomers for baths and blow outs to help maintain that beautiful coat of his. He even does well for nail trims! This sweet boy wants to be around his people a lot, so if someone is looking for an awesome adventure buddy, come meet Kevin!
Call us at 435-635-8314 to set up a time to meet him!

Even with the windows rolled down, only minutes in a hot car can be deadly for your pet! NEVER leave your pets or a child in the car!

CRACKING OPEN A WINDOW DOES NOT HELP!
Despite the warnings, hundreds of dogs in the U.S. die every year after being left in a hot car. Someone you know may need to read this very important message. ⚠️🚙⚠️
SIX MINUTES is all it takes for a dog to overheat in a hot car.
Your dog could suffer serious injury or die in a matter of minutes if left alone in a car.
• The temperature inside a closed vehicle left in the sun can double within 12 minutes.
• At least 75% of the temperature increase in a closed vehicle occurs within 5 minutes of closing the vehicle, and at least 89% of the temperature increase occurs within 15 minutes of closing the vehicle.
• Temperatures exceeding 104˚ F can lead to death or serious injury for the occupants.
• Temperatures in a closed vehicle sitting in the hot sun can reach 160˚F and above. An animal will suffer immeasurably and may die before the temperature reaches 150˚F.
• Even when parked in the shade, the vehicle temperatures can exceed 104˚C.
• Leaving windows down more than 2 inches on an unattended vehicle will not prevent a car from reaching extreme temperatures.
• Even if the animal is revived, they can die due to severe internal organ damage.
Your dog trusts you to have their best interest at heart ALWAYS.
Please don’t risk their safety.
If you are not taking your dog inside your destination with you, PLEASE leave them at home where they are comfortable and safe.

Hope your animals stay safe during the coming July firework displays. We hate fireworks.
26/06/2024

Hope your animals stay safe during the coming July firework displays. We hate fireworks.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
🧨 🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨

Many people enjoy the booming sounds and flashing colors of fireworks, but they can be terrifying, overwhelming and hazardous for both wild and domestic animals.

Here in Utah fireworks go off the whole month, but especially on the 4th of July. Many animals become so frightened by the noise and commotion of fireworks that they run from otherwise familiar environments and people, and sadly become lost. They may also suffer devastating or even fatal health effects from the stress.

July 5th is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters and wildlife rehabs.

Ways to help keep your pet safe:
1. Walk dogs earlier in the day to avoid walking when fireworks start.
2. Keep your animals indoors!
3. Create a safe space in your house for your pet. Cage, Under the bed, hiding spaces.
4. Close windows and curtains
5. Turn on radio or tv to cover loud noises, but also for a familiar sound.
6. Make sure they are microchipped or have tags.
7. Give them lots of treats (frozen Kong’s, sniff mats etc.) and spend time with them.
8. Give rabbits extra bedding. Rabbits like to burrow when they are scared, extra bedding helps them feel protected.
9. There are medications and techniques that might help alleviate your pets’ fear and anxiety so call your veterinarian and see if this is an option for your pet. (Yearly exam is required.)

Protect your pet from heat stroke during summer festivities
Another reason to keep your pets away from the often-noisy celebrations of summer is heat. High temperatures put your pet at risk of heat stroke, which can become deadly very quickly. Keep an eye on your pets and act immediately if you see any signs of heatstroke

Also remember that hot pavement can be dangerous to unprotected paws; if it’s too hot for you to hold your hand to the ground for five seconds, it's not safe for your dog to walk on.
