Behind the Scenes with Author Fabian Ferguson 📚

Check out my favorite part of my Beam Me Up! 

You’ll see this page is full of bright colors and fun characters. My and I worked really hard to make it special–well, mostly .

The idea was to mirror our character’s inner journey. Up to this point, the book’s colors are darker and moodier. But as he steps further into his adventure, splashes of vibrant colors start weaving in, setting the stage for this colorful moment. 

This page is where the story really gets exciting. The colors get brighter and everything feels more alive. It’s like his is jumping right off the page!

I still remember the rush of excitement I felt the first time I flipped to this page. It was , unforgettable, and it’s why this spread holds a special place in my heart. 

So yes, this is not just my favorite spread from Beam Me Up but perhaps my “favorite favorite” among all my (shh, don’t let my other books hear that! 🤫).

✨ AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT ✨ I’ve had my eyes on Fabian E. Ferguson’s books for a while now, and he was SO generous to share them with my class! Y’all - his books are too good. The star of the show is our girl Jackie, whose stories are so needed to teach my students that we can’t always win and can’t always do it all. I think my students will really be able to relate to Jackie’s enthusiasm and determination, and they will learn so much from how she gracefully handles letdowns. In The Mirror is a gorgeous story of self-love, and Beam Me Up tells the coolest imaginative space story! I know that my students will be absolutely captivated by the illustrations in these books, and I love that they give some much-needed representation in the elementary read aloud space.
