It's not soccer, but this kid is on a direct path to becoming a professional athlete. If your kid wants to be a pro, 3 hours a week of practice and a game a week will NOT do it.

So much emotion for just us, as spectators. Can you imagine the emotion of the players?!

Lionel Messi might have won MOTM but this 120+3' save from Emiliano Martinez saved Argentina's World Cup 🇦🇷❤️

Kevin de Bruyne's wife: "Sometimes at the dinner table, I'm about to say, 'Honey, can you pass the salad?' And before I even open my mouth, the salad is on my plate. He sees things that other husbands can't."

Be careful would you ask for.

Be careful would you ask for.

CRISTIANO RONALDO: "Being myself is boring. When it starts, it's cool. You're famous, you're a fantastic player, you win trophies, you score goals, you're on the front page of the newspaper, on television. But after so many years, you look at life differently. You have a girlfriend, you have kids, you want some privacy and there is no privacy anymore. My privacy is gone. If I had the chance now, I would pay to get my privacy back. People be like 'Ah yeah but you rich. You have money, you have cars, you have houses', but this isn't all. Believe me, being too famous is not good."
"Do you know how many times I've gone to the park with my kids over the past two years?" Zero. If I go, a lot of people will come suddenly. The kids will be nervous, I'll be nervous, my girlfriend will be nervous. I can't go to a bar with friends because I know they won't be comfortable with me there. I avoid doing those kinds of things, because the people around me will be more nervous than I am."

So often you will hear a coach say that a player "needs to work on their confidence."

It's not the player who lost their confidence. It's the coach who made them doubt themself.

Riqui Puig: "At Barcelona, I never had a manager who trusted me, so I lost confidence. I couldn’t stay and when I got a call from LA, I couldn’t believe I was being called by LA Galaxy. MLS is a league for young players. Trust me, in the coming years you’ll see more young players." 🔥

My son Cody used to not try something because he was bad at it. I explained if he practiced, he’d get better, but of course, I was dismissed with great and utter disgust 😆 and the thing he was bad at eventually became a thing he hated (he is stubborn like his mother). And then Jake says, ‘dude, sucking at something is the first step to being sorta good at it’. Well of course it’s brilliant (and it helps we love Adventure Time) but even better, soon Cody is Mr Adventure and taking on all kinds of new things. Harmonica, cooking, running, whittling, orienteering, yo-yo, sign language, fly fishing, pull-ups, quantum physics, etc. Suddenly sucking is fun and an invitation to join the party. I think I’m gonna take Jake’s advice and go suck at guitar 🙌💪❤️

Patrice Evra: "When I was 13, I sold drugs. I begged in front of a store for money. Sometimes when they threw the Big Macs cold after the service, we would go to collect them in the garbage. When my father left, it was chaos. Football saved me." 🔥

STOP PAYING FOR GOALS
Your player’s ability to score goals is 100% reliant on their TEAMMATES. 100%. In other words, they have NO CONTROL over whether or not they score, as the opportunity to score lies is someone else’s ability – or willingness – to give them the ball. In fact, if you want your child to score goals – and you have money to throw – you should probably throw it at your child’s teammates, for assists.

The greatest athletes in the world are those who STRUGGLED. They needed sports just to survive.

Jorginho: “ I was living on 20 euros a week that I was getting from my agent, the same one who had invited me to the camp. I’d always spend it on the same stuff.

Five euros to phone my family in Brazil, a few more for shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste. On the weekends I’d spend the rest in an Internet café to chat with friends and family on MSN.

Sometimes when I really wanted a treat, I’d go to the main square in Verona and buy a milkshake at McDonald’s.

It cost one euro. Fries? Burger? Forget it, man! Happy Meals were for the rich kids.

Then I would sit on a staircase in the corner of the square and just … watch. I’d watch people come and go. I’d watch the birds and the tourists and just let my thoughts wander. That was how I spent my Saturday afternoons.”

Whatever happens, don’t give up. 🔥

In 1998, youth soccer had 3 million participants. Today, we have 2.6 million. Youth sports are dying, because the emphasis is on WORK, not fun. She's misguided. The emphasis needs to be on FUN, not development. The kids who love the game will develop into our future stars, in every sport. You can't beat passion IN to anyone, but you sure can beat it out of them.

More kids would volunteer to play left-back if their coaches would allow them the freedom to play like this.
