Lowanna Owens has been donating blood since she was 19 years old. Now at age 77, she makes it a point to donate every June — her birthday month — as her gift to someone in need.

Lowanna has type O negative blood, often referred to as the universal blood type. It’s most commonly used for transfusions when the recipient’s blood type is unknown — which is why it’s often used in cases of trauma, emergency or surgery.

Hot with a Storm Possible Tuesday?

A lot of behind the scenes work on Monday at OVWC so we apologize for the lack of updates. In a good way, the weather remained quiet, so you did not miss too much as far as weather.

A quick glance on Tuesday brings a touch more humidity and a touch better chance that one or two storms could break the cap and potentially produce a thunderstorm. The chances are still quite small, but the atmosphere is getting a little more aggressive in trying to pop. With that being said, not much is anticipated today or tonight besides warm to hot temperatures. Highs will range from the upper 80s in a few cool spots to lower and middle 90s for most, but a few upper 90s could be realized in the hot spots.

Remember, Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories are in effect for most of Indiana, the western half of Ohio, and far northern Kentucky.

Check out the Heat Indices for the region tomorrow. Some areas will be well over 100 degrees, so use caution and take proper action if outside for an extended period of time.
