Photo from around 1938 - processed by William Hayes Shackelford, from a giant format negative in December, 2023 - 85 years after the photo was originally processed to negative, in Meridian, Mississippi, USA. This is actually a tight crop from a much larger group photo.
Working with large format negatives is a real pain in the butt. Hahahaha - it requires a tremendous amount of very tedious work to get anything out of them.
I have no idea whether the actual original printed photographs exist or who might have them. I received, via a second cousin, then through my sister, a box of hundreds, maybe over 1000 old negatives - maybe over 2000 - I cannot really estimate accurately. There were almost 200 of these large format negatives in ONE ENVELOPE - marked as being developed in Meridian, Mississippi with a date stamp on the envelope of September 7, 1938.

Where's Wildo?

It's that time of year! Go to Rothwell Park here in Moberly, Missouri to see one of the best Christmas displays in Missouri. It is free, but why not toss a few bucks in to help Atrusa (an organization that helps to make communities better)?
WHEN: November 26th - December 23rd
WHERE: Rothwell Park, Moberly, Missouri, USA - Entrance at the Lodge (next to the Riley Pavilion - across the road from the Aquatic Center and Archery Range Area)
WHO: All Ages
FEE: Free; Donations to the sponsor, Altrusa, are much appreciated.
Altrusa held their Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, November 26th at 6pm.
P.S. - Although entering at THE LODGE puts you into a great drive through of lots of great displays, there are actually other displays throughout Rothwell Park. Additionally, don't forget to drive through downtown Moberly (on Reed Street) and over to the Fennel Center (North Clark St., across from the Police and Fire Department buildings) to see some more wonderful Christmas stuff!

Photographers are creative artists and expect to get paid and expect to control their own work. Doesn't that sound reasonable to you? It is to most folks. Read the following. ;-)
I AM AN INDEPENDENT, FREELANCE, PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER / VIDEOGRAPHER
If somebody paints a painting, do you tell them what to do with it, tell them what to price it at, tell them that they don't control their own creative works?
If somebody writes a song, do you tell them what to do with it, tell them what to price it at, tell them that they don't control their own creative works?
If an architect draws up plans as an independent creative fellow, do you tell them what to do with those plans, tell them what to price their blueprints for, tell them that they don't control their own creative works?
If a sculptor creates a statue, do you tell them what to do with it, tell them what to price it at, tell them that they don't control their own creative works?
Now, why would ANYBODY think that they can tell me what to do with my own photographs, that I shoot with my own equipment, edit with my own computers and software, some of which I pay hundreds of dollars a year for (subscriptions) or pay lump sums for, etc.? I then take the time to crop and edit pretty much every single photo, but you are going to tell me what to do with my own creative works that I own? If you want one of my photos or a whole batch of full high resolution photos, whether in digital or printed form, you can pay me for it. When I snap a photo, I own it. If you snap a photo, you own it. Do you get that? Do you understand the legal realities of that? If you hire a professional photographer or videographer to do an event for you, they still own the photographs 99% of time and provide you with a license which outlines what you can and cannot do with THEIR CREATIVE WORKS. You can negotiate a price to contract them to come shoot photos at your wedding, party, band gig, or whatever, and they will tell you what you get for that price. If you decide you want extra copies, printed or in digital form, they will tell you how much that will cost you. If a freelance photographer puts photos up on certain websites, you can purchase a copy or can even contract to use one of your photos for their commercial purposes. You will have to pay for that. Now, if a photographer, like myself, choose to shoot photos for free, chooses to print something for you for free, chooses to post pics on Facebook for free, etc., that doesn't mean that he/she has given up the rights to those photos. They are OWNED BY the photographer and are automatically copyrighted the moment they snap the photo. The only exception to all that I just said is if you are a staff photographer, such as one hired by a newspaper, magazine or tv network or channel, etc.
As an independent business person, a photographer can choose to reduce the resolution on a photo, put a watermark on the photo, put a copyright notice on the photo or do whatever the hell they want to with that photo unless there is something specifically written into a law that says something is prohibited. If somebody shoots a photo of you out in a public space, you have no ownership right in it whatsoever - the photographer owns it. It is the same for photos or videos. It is a creative work owned by its creator.
So, don't freak out if I EXPECT TO BE PAID if you want some copies of something, either in high resolution digital format or printed or even printed and framed. You have to pay me. If I do one thing for free, that doesn't mean that I will do more stuff for free.
I have invested thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars in my equipment and business.
