A few weeks back, Maven Roofing & Exteriors sponsored Barktoberfest at Turtle Back Zoo. We brought three donated-to-us giant stuffed animals with us for the humans and animals to take pictures with as props.

At the end of the event, a few of the zookeepers came over and asked if they could buy one of the bears off of us. One of the two female black bears they had passed away and her sister was lonely... they thought maybe this giant teddy bear would cheer her up. We happily gave TBZ the bear.

Fast forward to today, I received these photos 🥹🥹🥹🐻🐻🐻🥰🥰🥰

These may be the sweetest photos I've ever received.

Huge news to share for us today!!

💥💥 Maven Roofing & Exteriors is now GAF Certified PLUS 💥💥

Why is this important for homeowners?

As a GAF Certified Plus Contractor, Maven's workmanship is now backed by GAF for a period of 10 years - this provides an immense amount of peace of mind when choosing us as your roofing contractor. Only Certified PLUS and Master Elite contractors can offer GAF-backed workmanship coverage.

We are proud to stand among this very small and highly select group of roofers in North America invited by GAF to become GAF Certified Plus Contractors.

Our hotel project was pushed a week due to permitting taking longer than anticipated.

We start Monday morning next week for this 220 square (22,000 square foot) behemoth.

Also replacing fascia + wrapping with aluminum + installing 6" seamless gutters.

It's all hands on deck for my team next week so please give us a bit of grace if we're not as responsive as usual :)

Today was a super fun day! We were given a VIP tour of Turtle Back Zoo and did some event planning for Barktoberfest, which we are sponsoring as the Top Dog. We love TBZ and have been members for years. It was nice to see a different side of the zoo and meet some of the senior leaders who make TBZ such a special place.

I'll share more info about Barktoberfest and our involvement in the event in the weeks to come.

For now, save the date! BARKtoberfest Pet Adoption Event & Marketspace! Saturday, September 7, 2024. 11AM - 3PM Berson Family Center at Turtleback Zoo.

If you have a roof leak from the storm, here's what to do:

1. Contain the Water: Place a bucket or container under the leak to catch water. If you can (safely) get into the attic to put a Rubbermaid lid under the leak and pack it with towels (on top of the lid), that will contain a lot of the water.

2. Relieve Water Pressure: If there's a bulging water pocket in the ceiling or the wall, puncture it carefully to drain water. This will help save the surrounding drywall.

3. Cover Valuables: Protect your furniture and valuables with plastic covers or tarps if the water is very bad.

4. Stay Safe: Avoid electrical risks from water leaks near wiring or fixtures. Move electrical items like lamps and TVs away from the water if possible. You can also shut off the breaker to that part of your electrical system if needed.

5. Document the Damage: Take photos and videos for insurance purposes - you will want to take a lot. And if you can take a video of the source of the leak, even better. You can send that to us and we can use that to pinpoint where the water is coming from.

6. Call a Professional: Contact a roofing contractor for repairs. It's highly probable that our area will see an uptick in unlicensed and uninsured “contractors" in the days that follow. These are called Storm Chasers or gypsy contractors. Demand to see their NJ Home Improvement Contractors License and their insurance coverages. Make sure they're specifically insured for roofing, not just general liability. Our NJ HIC is 13VH12679700.

7. *Notify Insurance: Inform your insurance agent about the leak / damage and ask them what your policy coverages, inclusions, and exclusions are in regards to storm related water leaks. (Note: sometimes it isn't worth putting in an insurance claim so if you need help deciding, I have a Public Adjuster I can refer for a consultation.)

If a tree hit your house or a branch fell on the roof, call Advanced Tree Care and let them know Amanda from Maven Roofing referred you. 908 637-8476

Our company provides emergency roof repairs and tarping.

Remember, safety is paramount. Avoid going on the roof during the storm. You can call our office this morning 201.317.2198

It's official! I will now be an international speaker. I was invited by Roofr to speak in Toronto in two weeks on April 23rd and then again in Pittsburg on May 7th.

It was on my bucket list to speak internationally this year and it's happened way faster than anticipated.

Come spend time with me in Toronto or Pittsburgh OR join folks like Corey Combes, Arielle Cohen, Pete McKendrick, Chelsea Smith FauverJonathon Broce, and Crystal Watterson at other cities across the US.

I'll drop registration details down below.

I was featured in an article by my hometown's digital newspaper. I'm honored to have been chosen to have this writeup done. My roots are strong in South Plainfield and it was in that town my love for construction began.

NEW JERSEY - A South Plainfield native is taking the roofing business by storm and celebrating the one-year anniversary of her successful company.

Current forecast - 0" - 24" of snow is expected to fall in the next 24 hours!

But in all seriousness, we're prepared for 6" - 14", with some meteorologists calling for less and some calling for more...soooo 0" - 24" probably isn't too far off.

Entertaining kids on a snow day while maintaining a sliver of sanity requires a blend of creativity, humor, and a dash of desperation.

Here’s your survival guide!

The Great Indoor Expedition:

- Mission: Pillow Fort: Transform your living room into an impenetrable fortress or a fairy-tale castle. The rule is: if you can imagine it, you can build it. Don’t forget the secret password to enter.
- Treasure Hunt: Hide small "treasures" around the house. Draw a map or write riddles. Watch as your home turns into the set of an Indiana Jones movie, minus the rolling boulder.
- Sock Puppet Theater: It’s time those lonely socks missing their partners got a second chance at life. Create a puppet show complete with dramatic plots, funny voices, and a sock audience.

Embrace the Snow:

- Snow Picasso: Fill spray bottles with food coloring and water. Turn the snow-covered yard into a giant canvas. Who says you can’t have a rainbow in winter?
- Yeti Dance Party: Bundle up and have a dance-off outside. The person who makes the Yeti (an invisible yet incredibly judgmental dance critic) applaud wins hot chocolate.
- Snowball Bowling: Line up some empty bottles or make snow pins. Roll snowballs to knock them down. Instant snow alley!

Sanity Savers:

- DIY Spa Day: Everyone gets a face mask (yes, even the teddy bear). Cucumbers for the eyes, and relaxing music. Teach the kids the art of whispering.
- The Great Bake-off: Involve the kids in baking cookies or a simple cake. The catch? Pretend you’re on a cooking show. Each step is a dramatic reveal. “And now, for the secret ingredient... flour!”
- Quiet Reading Time: Announce a cozy reading hour. Everyone grabs a book or a magazine. The twist? Do it in your newly built pillow fort. Flashlights and whispers only.

For the Desperate Times!

- Balloon Volleyball: Clear some space, string up a “net” (anything will do), and try not to let the balloon touch the ground. The game ends when someone (probably you) needs a nap.
- Fashion Show: Dive into those closets and create the most outrageous outfits possible. Strut down your hallway like it’s the runway of the year. Bonus points for commentary in an exaggerated accent.
- Science Experiments: Combine baking soda and vinegar for a classic volcano. Or, mix cornstarch and water to make oobleck. It’s educational, but more importantly, it’s a mess they’re actually allowed to make.

Remember, a snow day is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep snacks on hand, caffeine in your cup, and when all else fails, there’s always the magic of turning cardboard boxes into anything from race cars to spaceships. Good luck, brave soul. You’ve got this!

Tomorrow at 3:50am I set off on an insane adventure.

I was one of about 60 people selected from 60,000 applicants to film the next season of The Blox, filmed by BetaBlox, which is a reality TV show for entrepreneurs.

I'll be flying to Tulsa, where I'll live for a week under the same roof as the other 50 entrepreneurs and we'll be put through the ringer of all things entrepreneurship.

It is - indeed - a competition - I've been told it's like Shark Tank meets Top Chef. And of course my uber-competitive nature makes me want to win said competition :)

The show is the brainchild of Wes Bergmann, who you may recognize from MTV's The Real World and The Challenge.

So, if you don't hear from me for a week, this is why.

Wish me all the good juju and luck you can! Sounds like there is going to be some fierce competition alongside me this week.

PS, yes, I'm free to discuss this - they actually want us to talk about it to help drum up interest in the show!
