Shelby Mayor's Race Update:
Yesterday, (Tuesday, July23) a special mayoral election was held in Shelby to fill the vacated seat of former Shelby Mayor, Dan Harris. Although the results cannot be declared official as of today, Robert Scott received 405 votes to Bobbie Reed's 104. According to city officials, the vote won't be official until July 30th due to an individual who voted without identification. The voter has been allowed five days to bring in his ID. The Bolivar Bullet will have more details on this outcome in next week's edition.

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Former Delta State swimmer Caroline Jouisse '19 will be representing France in the 2024 Olympics, as she will be swimming in the open water 10km. The Women's open water 10k will take place on August 8, at 12:30 a.m.

On Saturday, two local fighters will be entering the cage for mixed martial arts action at the event titled Trogon Fighting Alliance I at the Batesville Civic Center in Batesville.
Nick Delahoussaye will be making his second professional fight as he will take on Joseph Pernal in featherweight action, while Aslan Buckner will be making his MMA amateur debut as he will take on Matt Brown in a middleweight fight. Delahoussaye and Buckner will be representing Wolfpak MMA. Delahoussaye's professional record is 1-0.The Delahoussaye-Pernal fight is part of a co-main event.
Doors at the Batesville Civic Center will open at 5:00 p.m. with the event starting at 6:00 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased online at fightertix.com/tfa. The event will also be a live stream of the event for $12.99, and it will be available on fight night. The link will be posted on the Trogon Fighting Alliance page that has 1,300 followers.

Happy Monday from the CVFD!

More insight into the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department. The CVFD is fortunate to have the City of Cleveland’s support in what we do. They provide us with the tools we need to make our community safe. The biggest tools we have are the trucks we respond to calls in. Cleveland has 3 fire engines, 3 rescue trucks, and a ladder truck.
Fire engines are the trucks that most people associate with the fire department because of what they carry and how they look. The primary purposes of a fire engine include transporting firefighters and water to an incident as well as carrying equipment for firefighting operations.
Something special that the CVFD does is the dedication of fire engines to honor people that have been important to the department. Pictured above is “Donald”.
Our 3 Engines
Engine 21 – “Donald” – Named after former fireman Donald Swafford.
Engine 23 – “Sue” – Named after Sue King.
Engine 20 – “Rosa” – Named after Rosa Richmond.
Shout out to these three and their families for what they have meant to the CVFD.

The Cleveland Police Department has made one arrest with more forthcoming after several vehicles were stolen around June 16, 2024. During the incident, three vehicles were taken from several different residences around the Norman Circle area off Rondaldman Road.

Arrested was 27-year-old Beulah resident Devonski Lemons. He has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Lemons was taken before a Cleveland Municipal Judge where his bond was set at $50,000 ($25,000 per charge). Lemons is currently being held at the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility on a Mississippi Department of Corrections hold.

The incident is still under investigation.
