Today would have been the birthday of the great Rick Wright; keyboardist, composer and one of the founders of Pink Floyd.
After his death in 2008, David Gilmour remembered him like this:
"There is no one who can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and friend. In discussions about who or what Pink Floyd were, Rick's enormous contribution in the later days with Roger Waters has often been overlooked. He was such a gentle, modest and private guy but his deep voice and playing were vital, magical components of our recognisable sound. I have never played with anyone like him. The harmony of our voices and our musical telepathy blossomed on 1971's Echoes. For me, all Pink Floyd's greatest moments are the ones when he is in full flow. After all, without Us and Them and The Great Gig in the Sky, both of which he composed, what would The Dark Side of the Moon have been?"
