Let’s talk about prayer!

Now don’t get me wrong - prayer for some people can be a wonderful tool!

However we shouldn’t assume that a Disabled person wants to be healed purely because they are Disabled - this can very quickly become ableism!

Assuming a Disabled person 1. Needs ‘fixing’ is problematic and assuming 2. A Disabled person is unhappy with themselves isn’t great either!

So it’s best to not pray for random strangers unless they ask - and to only pray for healing if someone has directly asked! If they have! That is great!

It is also important to be aware that different people have different religious and many may have trauma from religion - all of these things may make someone feel uncomfortable or unsafe being prayed for.

What are your thoughts and feelings towards prayer?

Just don’t assume all Disabled people do’

ALL Disabled people should feel they are able to use the toilet they need without worrying!!

Before I was visibly Disabled I would often get ‘called out’ for using the Disabled toilet when I needed to use it!!

In the UK we have a separate toilet for Disabled person (own toilet space with own walls etc) and there are lots and lots of different reasons people need to use them! Please please dont shame anyone for using them!

You also dont need to apologise when you see me waiting! If you have used the Disabled toilet ill trust you need it and thats that! If you aren’t Disabled and dont need the disabled loo for safety or space then please don’t! Simple as that! ❤️

3 things we wished you knew this Disability Pride Month♿️

July is disability pride month and we watched to chat about some of things that we wish you knew about disability!

Every disabled person and experience is different which is what makes the community so beautiful and unique!

What are some of things you wish people knew this DPM?

: Photo 1: Eliza, Jenni and Nina 3 White fem wheelchair users are sitting in a line outside with a brown fluffy dog in front of them. Eliza, left is wearing a blue flowery dress and has rainbow hair, Jenni, middle has long copper hair and is wearing a rainbow dress is smiling at camera, Nina, right has brown and pink hair and is wearing a pink star dress. There is text that reads ‘3 things we wish you knew this disability pride month’ photo 2 the 3 of them still smiling at camera with the text ‘1. You don’t need to aks someone who is using a mobility aid ‘what happened’ photo 3: they are all still sat in a line smiling with the text ‘2: you can still have disability pride AND acknowledge disability can be difficult’ photo 4: the three are sitting in a line smiling with the text ‘3: disability isn’t automatically sad or tragic! A disabled persons life is as varied and unique as the person living it’ photo 5: same as photo one with the text ‘what would you add?’

July is Disability Pride Month!

A month where we celebrate all Disabled people!

Throughout the month I am going to be making some in-depth content about disability pride and why it is important as well as the history around the month!

Disability Pride is for ALL Disabled people regardless of sexuality! It is a time to talk about what it is like to be Disabled, the issues we face and of course some Disabled joy in there as well!

How are you celebrating?

: Photo descriptions: Photo 1: Eliza a White fem wheelchair user is wearing a purple sequin outfit and is smiling outside with the text ‘what is disability pride month?’ Photo 2: a photo of the disability pride flag, as black flag with colourful lines on it, there is text on the screen that reads ‘Disability Pride Month happens every year in July. The first celebrations were in 1990 in the US as the American Disability Act was passed, it was originally just 1 day but as time as gone on we now celebrate the entire month of July’ Photo 3: same background with the text ‘Disability Pride Month even has it’s own flag!’ Photo 4: a photo of the disability pride flag, a black flag with a colourful lines on of green, red, white, yellow and blue’ photo 6: Same background with the text ‘Disability Pride is not the same a Pride month in June - it is a month for anyone who is Disabled to participate in regardless of sexuality anyone who is Disabled can celebrate!’ Photo 7: same background with the text ‘If you are a brand looking to celebrate/acknowledge this Disability Pride - remember to always pay those involved and to actively find & support the Disabled community ALL year round’ photo 8: same background with the text ‘Why do we need Disability Pride? Disabled people are still not treated as equal & ableism is still very much prevalent today

So recently I went out to test drive a wheelchair & burst into tears on my first outing which was something I really didn’t expect…

I mean, it’s just a different chair right, it’s not any different to being a different chair… but emotionally it felt different & I was suddenly overwhelmed with the feeling of shame of needing a wheelchair (even though logically I know there isn’t ANY shame in it at all!) and then I felt shame for feeling shame?

I decided to take myself home and just allow myself to feel all the feelings - because it’s okay to struggle EVEN years on. I think so often disabled content is about sharing disabled joy (which is very valid and important & needed) but I also wanted to share some of the hard moments too!

Anyway - now I love the chair, and it was never about the chair it was just about my body!

Sending anyone feeling similar things loads of love today!

I’VE LAUNCHED A PATREON… the first 60 paid members will get a SHARK PIN!!!!🦈 but don’t worry! There is free content over there too!

Well technically it’s a relaunch, but this time I am doing it right! Over the last few months I have been working with the lovely hannahwitton who is the queen of patreon to launch one for myself!

I have called it the Radiant Rainbow Club🌈

So excited about it! But what do members get?
✨Access to a free shark info pack
✨Behind the scenes content
✨Access to short form drafts
✨Patreon chats features to meet like minded people
✨A free shark pin for the first 60 members
✨Access to old cringey private youtube videos

I have also just written a free blog over there where I discuss how I make money as a Disabled content creator which you can access as a free patreon member! So even if you aren’t in a place financially to join there is still content over there for you❤️

I hope to see you in the club! 🌈

eek

Thank you to hannahwitton for all your help with the launch! If anyone is looking to launch a patreon email her!

Why I choose not to share my medical diagnoses online! 🏥

People online often get VERY angry at me for this one… but I personally no longer share my diagnoses online! There are a few different reasons for this including:
✨it’s personal
✨I don’t want to
✨I don’t feel safe sharing
✨Disabled people have a right to medical privacy

Now it is COMPLETELY valid and amazing if you do share you medical diagnoses! That is complete your preference & you should be allowed to share if you want too! However it is also valid to NOT share!

Essentially no one should feel pressured either way!

Do you share your medical diagnosis online or do you prefer to keep it private?

In 2020 I lost my job because of my mental and physical health. CW: mentions of mental health

I was SO unwell but was forcing myself to work because I had bills to pay and had no choice. I’d spend days with hot water bottles strapped to me, crying in the bathroom, panic attack after panic attack until I was let go…

The stress I put myself under when I wasn’t well enough to work but forced myself too was terrible & I paid the price for many many months later - it put me in a mental state that took many many therapy sessions and work to crawl out of.

No one is not going to work for the ‘fun of it’ we are just sick & the work place isn’t accessible.

Please do better xx
