Jamelia & Shana: As a Black-Owned Business owner, it is important to us to create an environment that is both welcoming and successful. We aim to foster a space where everyone feels valued and included, while also driving excellence and growth in our business endeavors. Building a supportive community and promoting diversity and empowerment are central to our mission.

TSG: Who is your hero and/or who inspires you?

Jamelia & Shana: The success of every woman should be an inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you're courageous, be strong, be extremely kind, and above all, be humble.—Serena Williams

TSG: How do you strike a good work/life balance? How do you relax? What are your favorite hobbies when you aren't working?

Jamelia & Shana: Striking a good work/life balance involves making a comprehensive to-do list and focusing our time on things we're truly passionate about. Relaxation for us includes enjoying good food as dedicated foodies, engaging in self-care routines, spending quality time on family outings, and trying new activities. We're currently taking golf lessons and creating a ladies' golf community, which adds an exciting and fulfilling dimension to our lives. These activities help us recharge and maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life.

TSG: What is another Black-Owned Business you love/would recommend?

TSG: What inspired you to create your own unique business here in Huntsville?

Jamelia & Shana: The Sage Lounge was created to fill a niche in Huntsville for chic and intimate event venues. During this three-day master workshop, students will learn to make a twin-sized Modern Dutchman’s puzzle quilt with Tiavalya Befecadu.

August 17, 10am-2pm
Wheel Throwing Pottery – Watch as ceramic pieces are made using a 19th-century style kick wheel in the Potter’s Shed.

August 31, 10am-2pm
Basket Weaving and Cordage Making with Invasive Plants – The ancient method of creating rope and cordage using wild harvested plants and vines will be demonstrated. Handmade cordage is a versatile and beautiful way of using up unwanted plant material that can then be woven into basketry or used for a wide variety of craft purposes.

September 14, 10am-2pm
Plant ID Walks – Walk around the Historic Park and along the woodland trails to learn about wild and native plants and their different uses with a Burritt staff member.

Fabric Dyeing with Botanicals – Assorted nuts, barks, and other botanical material will be used to demonstrate the process of dyeing wool and fabric with natural materials.
