KU congratulates faculty on 'groundbreaking' invention Innovations cornerstone of university ecosystem: VC

Srinagar, March 1: Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah, a Kashmir University (KU) faculty, has been granted a patent for his groundbreaking technology aimed at reducing night traffic accidents caused by traffic light glare.

The patent, awarded on February 9, 2023, with an effective date of February 22, 2021 (date of filing) under the Indian Patent Act, marks a significant milestone in the realm of traffic safety.

The invention is one of its kinds in the world and is supposed to influence the motor landscape in and out of the country given the fact that more than 52% traffic accidents occur during night.

"The University Innovation Centre would approach the relevant automobile manufacturing industrial sector for assessing the techno-economic feasibility of the said innovation for its uses in a wide variety of automobile units.
Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah, Sr. Assistant Professor at KU’s Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology led a four-member team consisting of Parsa Sarosh, Sabreena Mushtaq, and Sheezan Fayaz in developing this innovative solution.

In her message, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, extended her heartfelt congratulations to Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah and his team for this remarkable achievement.

Prof Khan also acknowledged the contributions of other faculty members, teachers and administrative officers who supported and encouraged innovation at Kashmir University.

"Since, innovations are the cornerstone of a university ecosystem, a number of initiatives has been taken up to promote innovation-related activities intended to yield a positive impact on the employability of skilled youth.

Dean, Research, KU, Professor Mohammad Sultan Bhat, highlighted the importance of this invention and announced that the varsity's Innovation Centre will collaborate with relevant automobile manufacturing industries to assess the techno-economic feasibility of integrating this innovation into a wide range of automobile products, the statement read further.

Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof Farooq Ahmad Masoodi, KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal besides various other university officers, teachers, scholars and students also congratulated the team for the invention.

سری نگر، 08 جون: سری نگر کے رعناواری علاقے میں وشو بھارتی ہائیر سیکنڈری اسکول کے طلباء نے جمعرات کو اسکول انتظامیہ کے خلاف مبینہ طور پر 'عبایا' پہن کر احاطے میں داخل ہونے کی اجازت نہ دینے کے خلاف احتجاج کیا۔

ایک طالب علم نے اے پی آئی کو بتایا۔ خبر ہے کہ انہیں 'عبایا' پہن کر اسکول کے احاطے میں داخل ہونے کی اجازت نہیں دی گئی۔

رپورٹر کے مطابق، فائز اشرف زرگر وی بی ہائیر سیکنڈ کا ایک اور طالب علم۔ اسکول نے کہا کہ پرنسپل نے ہمیں کہا کہ 'عبایا' کے ساتھ اسکول کے احاطے میں داخل نہ ہوں یا کسی دوسرے اسکول میں تبدیل ہو۔

اسکول کے پرنسپل سے بات کرتے ہوئے اے پی آئی نیوز کو بتایا کہ اگرچہ اسکول کا اپنا ڈریس کوڈ ہے اور کچھ لڑکیاں ’عبایا‘ بھی پہنتی ہیں، لیکن انہیں کبھی نہیں روکا گیا۔

"کل، میں نے اساتذہ کو مطلع کیا کہ وہ اسکول کے احاطے میں عبایا نہ پہنیں لیکن وہ اس وقت تک عبایا میں آ سکتے ہیں جب تک کہ وہ سجاوٹ کو برقرار رکھنے کے لیے اسکول کے احاطے میں نہ پہنچ جائیں۔"

ساتھ ہی انہوں نے کہا کہ "ہم پہلے حکام سے بات کریں گے پھر ہم ان تمام طلباء کے لیے 'عبایا' کے مناسب رنگ اور پیٹرن کا اعلان کریں گے جو عبایا پہن کر اسکول آنا چاہتے ہیں۔

The seized property included a residential plot measuring 1 kanal 1.5 marlas worth a market value of ₹ 44 lakh and two vehicles worth ₹ 12 lakh have been seized as illegally acquired property through sale of narcotic drugs.

As a part of J&K Government's Public outreach programme, Handwara Police today organized 'Thana Diwas' at Police Station Qalamabad.

The meeting was chaired by SDPO Handwara *Madam Sleet shah* accompanied by SHO PS Qalamabad Dysp madam Anam manhas.

The meeting was attended by the respectable citizens, civil societies of Qalamabad area, including DDC Member mawer khurshid Ahmad Dar Socio political activist Rayees Ahmad Mir haril ,Sarpanchs Numberdars, Chowkidars,Traders Federation Qalamabad, Transporters and PRI's members.

In the p***c outreach Programme numerous grievances projected by the general public were resolved on the spot as the chairing officer gave patient hearing to the participants and also assured that other issues will be taken up accordingly with the concerned authorities.

It was also reiterated by the supervisory officer that the aim of the *'Thana Divas'* is to ensure timely and efficient services to the aggrieved persons in a very transparent judicious manner.

Police arrests 02 militant associates in Sopore

Arms, ammunition & IED recovered

Sopore, 10 May 🅰️🅿️ℹ️|| Police alongwith security forces have arrested two militant associates linked with LeT in Sopore and recovered incriminating materials including arms & ammunition, IED from their possession.

According to police based on a specific input regarding presence of 02 suspected individuals near Saidpora Bypass area, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (22 RR) and CRPF (179 Bn) in the said area. During the search operation, 02 suspected individuals were spotted trying to run away in an attempt to break the cordon. Assessing the situation, the vigilant troops displayed situational awareness, extreme restraint and exceptional fire control in not opening the fire. Subsequentially, both the suspected individuals were arrested on the spot. They have been identified as Kaiser Manzoor Mir son of Manzoor Ahmad resident of Behl Mohalla Saidpora and Muzaffar Majeed Mir son of Abdul Majeed Mir resident of Shalpora, Brat Kalan.

During initial questioning, both the arrested accused persons confessed that they were working as associates for local active terrorist Bilal Ahmad Mir resident of Brath Kalan Sopore linked with LeT.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 15 Pistol rounds, 25 AK-47 rounds, 01 IED and 02 Hand Grenades were recovered from their possession.

A case under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station and further investigation is in progress.

Kulgam Police provided helping hand and Rescued 10 tourists

Kulgam : May 08, 2023

Amid the inclement weather, kulgam police have provided helping hand to 10 tourists (all the residents of Andaman and Nicobar) who got stuck at B-top, Jawahar Tunnel.

Today a specific information was recieved by Kulgam police that some tourists got stuck in heavy snowfall at unknown place (not known to them) while travelling in their vehicle bearing registration number HR55AN-9507 in the jurisdiction of district Kulgam. Accordingly, a police party headed by SDPO Qazigund Shri Govind Rattan-JKPS, SHO Qazigund, IC PP JT alongwith civil administration Kulgam and BEACON under the close supervision of SP Kulgam Shri Sahil Sarangal-IPS was constituted. By using all available means and with the help of technical assistance their location was traced out by the joint rescue team and promptly the said team rushed to the spot and resued all the 10 persons who got stuck in heavy snowfall at higher reaches of B-top Jawahar Tunnel. They were provided necessary assistance & help and were shifted to safe accommodation and from where they started their further journey towards Jammu smoothly.

The tourists expressed their gratitude towards police for their timely help and necessary assistance.

Notorious drug peddler arrested in Budgam;Psychotropic substance recovered, vehicle seized

Budgam, 8th May 🅰️🅿️ℹ️||Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Budgam Police have arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered psychotropic substance from his possession, vehicle also seized.

During naka checking at Harran, Police Party of Police Post Soibugh intercepted one vehicle ford Ecosports bearing registration number *DL10CT-4968* with one person onboard who was coming from Hakermulla towards Harran. During search of the said vehicle, controlled drug *330 strips of tapendadol (3300 tablets)* and *25 strips of Spasmo-Proxyvon (200 capsules)* were recovered from the possession. The driver has been arrested on spot and vehicle used for commission of crime has also been seized.The arrested driver has been identified as *Nisar Ahmad Sheikh S/O Ghulam Nabi Sheikh resident of Sector D Hamdaniya Colony Bemina*. Later it came to fore that the said accused person is a chronic drug peddler & he was selling the illegal drugs among the youth of district Budgam. Various FIRs have already been registered against him in different police stations in district Srinagar.

Kulgam police arrested a bootlegger and recovered Illicit liquor from his possession

Kulgam May 03 🅰️🅿️ℹ️||Continuing its unwavering efforts against "inimical" elements, Kulgam police has arrested a bootlegger and recovered huge consignment of illicit liquor from his possession.

On 01.05.2023 Police party headed by SHO Qazigund established a checkpoint (Naka) at Mandhole crossing on NHW-44 and at about 1540 hours, during Naka checking one person carrying a bag and roaming in suspicious manner was signalled to stop for checking. However the said person after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot. He was chased and after strenuous efforts he was apprehended tactfully and 10 bottles of illicit Liquor (750 ml each) were recovered from his possession. His identity was established as Ram Lal S/O Mehram R/O Rajistan.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 75/2023 U/S 50 Excise Act was registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation and from disclosure of the said arrested person l205 more Bottles of Illicit liquor (750 ml each) were recovered from his residence (rented room) at Vessu near NHW-44. Further investigation of the case is going on.

Police Party of PP Warpora during patrolling duty at Dangerpora apprehended a suspecious person at Umerabad who tried to escape while noticing Police Party but was caught tactfully.

During priliminary enquiry the individual disclosed his identity as Showkat Ahmad Sofi S/O Ab Satar R/O Rajbagh Dangerpora. On his search 31 Pieces 1222 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession, he could not justify the possession of the recovered Substance, Infact the individual is a natorious drug peddler and was carrying the recovered drug for selling it to the youth in and outside area of Zaingeer for his illegal means.

On this case FIR no. 78/2023 US 8/20 NDPS Act registered in PS Sopore and investigation taken up.

Kulgam police have arrested three drug peddlers and the hunt will go on till the last one is sent behind the bars

Kulgam : May 02🅰️🅿️ℹ️|| Kulgam police is making every effort to hunt down the drug peddlers in the district and to eradicate the drug menace from its roots.

During Naka checking at Kanjikulla Crossing by the Police party headed by SHO police station Yaripora, one suspicious person namely; Shabir Ahmad Wani S/O Ghulam Rasool Wani R/O Wongipora Harmain, Shopian was intercepted. During his personal search, officers present were able to recover 04 gram of He**in like contraband substance from his possession. Similarly in an another incident; during Naka checking at Matibugh, the said police party intercepted one more drug peddler namely Mohd Iqbal Shah S/O Mohd Amin Shah R/O Munnad who was moving in suspicious condition. After his personal search 04 gram of He**in like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. Both the drug peddlers were arrested on spot.

Moreover, another Naka was established by the police party headed by SHO police station DH Pora at Village Yaroo. During Naka checking one person namely Mohd Shafi Sheikh S/O Ali Mohammad Sheikh R/O Yaroo roaming in suspicious condition was signalled to stop who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot. He was chased and apprehended tactfully. After his personal search officers present were able to recover 130 gram of Cannabis Powder like contraband substance.

Regarding the incidents, cases with FIR No. 42 & 43/2023 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act & case with FIR No. stands registered at police station Yaripora and Police station DH Pora respectively and investigation is in progress in all the cases.

People are requested to co-operate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society.

A delinquent who attacked on fellow students by Knife is taken into custody by Ganderbal Police.

Ganderbal May 01 🅰️🅿️ℹ️||Today around 3 pm in the afternoon, a scuffle broke out between two groups of boys of Dreamland school, Beehama, Ganderbal wherein one student namely Zahid Shabir S/o Shabir Ahmed R/o Bandybagh, Ganderbal attacked two fellow students by sharp object/ knife resulting injuries to both of them. The injured students were identified as Hidayat Ahmed and Ibrahim Ahmed, both the residents of Beehama, Ganderbal. Soon after the incident, both the injured students were shifted to SKIMS for treatment. Zahid who attacked his fellow students fled away from the spot. On this incident FIR No.116/2023 was registered under relevant sections in Police station Ganderbal.

A team was constituted under the supervision of DSP PC Ganderbal and deputed to arrest the accused, after strenuous efforts Police team caught the accused near Baroosa. During investigation it came fore that the incident took place over minor issues and some more students were involved in scuffle. Zahid who is student of class 12th of Dreamland school has been aggressive since the beginning and as per school principal he was involved in multiple fights with other students in the past.

With all the legal procedures and formalities the delinquent will be produced before Juvenile Board and other students who were involved in the scuffle will also be brought and produced before the Board.

On 11 April 2023 Police Post Warpora received an application from one Wajhatul Islam S/O Ab Hameed Hajam R/O Botingoo Sopore alleging therein that during the intervening night of 10/11 April 2023, some unknown burgulars have entered in to his sports shop situated at Kadlabal Botingoo, and have stolen Sports items worth lacs.

Upon this, case FIR No. 61/2023 U/S 457, 380 IPC was registered in PS Sopore and investigation was taken up.
During the investigation manhunt was launched to nab the culprits, various places were raided and suspects were taken to custody. During sustainable interrogation three persons namely:
01.Shoib Bhat S/O Muhammad Mohammad Sultan Bhat

02. Rameez Ahmad Rather S/O Mohammad Ashraf Rather and

03. Nayeem Ahmad Najar S/O Gh Ahmad Najar all the residents of Usmanabad Warpora Sopore confessed the commission of crime and on their disclosure stolen property (Sports items including Cricket kits and Bats) were recovered from different locations and the load carrier bearing registration number PB10FV4078 which was used in the commission of crime has also been seized, further investigation of the case is still going on.

Budgam, April 11 🅰️🅿️ℹ️|| Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Budgam Police arrests a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

During naka checking at Waterwani, police party of police station Budgam intercepted one person roaming in suspicious condition carrying a nylon bag (Yellow Colour). Upon noticing police party he tried to flee from the spot, but was apprehended tactfully. During search *7.4 KGs of Poppy Straw (Fukki)* concealed in the nylon bag was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested on spot and subsequently identified as *Rohit Kumar son of Duresh Chand resident of Mathiya District Hardoi Uttar Pradesh*

1.7 Lakh Students with 96.6% Pass J&K Middle Standard Exam

Director SCERT extols stakeholders for successfully accomplishing strenuous task

SRINAGAR, APRIL 10 🅰️🅿️ℹ️||The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Monday, announced the Middle Standard Result for the academic year 2022-23. This marks a significant moment as it is the first time the government has implemented a unified academic calendar in J&K UT and conducted exams during the March-April session.

Approximately 175,547 students from both government and private schools in all the 20 districts of J&K took the examination of the second term of the academic year 2022–23. The UT of J&K was divided into two zones: Soft and Hard, to ensure a smooth and efficient examination process.

“The results have been overwhelmingly positive, with a total 169,564 candidates qualifying, resulting in an impressive overall pass percentage of 96.6,” the Joint Director said.

The Jammu Division saw a total of 88,506 candidates appearing for the exam, out of which 86,132 candidates qualified, with a pass percentage of 93.85 for government schools and 97.84 for private schools.

In the Kashmir Division, a total of 87,041 candidates appeared for the exam, out of which 83,432 candidates qualified, with a pass percentage of 95.67 for government schools and 95.53 for private schools.

Director SCERT, Prof Parikhshat Singh Manhas, congratulated the students on their success and wished them luck for their future endeavors. He also thanked the SCERT, DIETs and other stakeholders who contributed to making this strenuous exercise possible.

The SCERT and the associated (DIETs) were entrusted with the job of supervising the entire process of conducting the examinations.

*SSP Ramban Ms Mohita Sharma IPS* on 15 March chaired the security review meeting and crime meeting at Conference Hall District Police Office (DPO) Ramban in view of the forthcoming festival seasons in Distt Ramban. The meeting was attended by Addl SP Ramban Sh Gourav Mahajan, DySP Hqrs Ramban Sh Pardeep Singh Sen, SDPO Banihal Sh Nissar Khoja, SDPO Gool Sh Nihar Ranjan and all SHOs & IC PPs.
During the meeting, SSP Ramban briefed all the officers attending the meeting about the prevailing security scenario in District Ramban and apprised them about the need of being extra vigilant on the forthcoming festival season. She further directed all the officers to increase footprints in their respective areas of responsibility while adopting a village in their own JD and also keep a vigil over National Highway (NH44), that passes through the Ramban district, in order to avoid any untoward incidents. SSP Ramban further directed the participants to unearth various terror and narco modules existing, if any, in Distt Ramban and also have a thorough grip on the transit narco smuggling through NH44 while generating specific human intelligence.
Thereafter, SSP Ramban appreciated the efforts of territorial officers for their maintenance of Law & Order (L&O) and peace and stability in the district and emphasised upon them to maintain synergy and better coordination with other security agencies at ground level to maintain the peaceful environment and security grid strong in the district.

GANDERBAL POLICE ARRESTED TIMBER SMUGGLER AND SEIZED ILLICIT TIMBER IN THE UPPER REACHES OF KANGAN.

GANDERBAL MARCH 06 🅰️🅿️ℹ️|| Under the directions of SSP Ganderbal Shri Nikhil Borkar-IPS, Ganderbal Police arrested a Timber Smuggler in the Jurisdiction of PS Gund & recovered illicit Timber. Acting Swiftly on a tip-off from reliable sources about the timber smuggling, Police Party led by SHO PS Gund Arshid Salfee under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Shri Muzaffar Jan-JKPS raided in the upper reaches of Forest Cover, at Compartment No.36 Sindh range Kangan.

During the questing, it came to the surface that the accused person cut down forest trees and kept them hidden in the forest compartment, as mentioned above. Further, it came to the fore that the accused had the intention of selling the illicit Timber in the form of finished logs.

The Said illicit Timber was seized, and the accused got arrested who disclosed his identity as Muneer Ahmed Bijran S/o. Dilpazeer Bijran R/o. Hilpati Gund.

In this regard, Case FIR No.08/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Gund, and further investigation has been taken up.

Ganderbal Police is committed to continuing its strict action against Timber Smugglers so that Green Gold can be saved from being plundered. People of the area hailed such action and re-affirmed faith on Police.

Kulgam March 06 🅰️🅿️ℹ️|| Kulgam Police seeks help from the general public to trace out the missing persons (Roomi Akther wife of Abdul Salam Dar age about 30 Years, Muskaan age about 09 years and Hadi age about 04 Years); residents of Cheyan Kulgam missing since February 20, 2023.

Regarding matter missing report has been lodged at Police Station Devsar.

Pulwama police has been at the forefront of fighting social crimes and a persistent campaign against such social evils. Persons found indulging in such criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Sopore police arrested Bootlegger, recovered illicit liquor from his possession, Case registered.

Sopore, 19 February 2023:

Continuing its drive against the menace of drugs and illicit liquor,

Sopore Police today arrested one bootlegger during naka checking and recovered illicit liquor from his possession.

A naka was established at Sopore, during checking a vehicle bearing registration number JK04B-9591 was signaled to stop for checking, but driver tried to flee, however was apprehended tactfully by the allert police party.

During the search of the said vehicle party was able to recover
01. 10 bottles of Old Adventure Rum 750ml,
02. 10 bottles of Old Adventure Rum 370ml,
03. 04 bottles of Kerala Malted Whiskey 375ml,
04. Kerala Malted Whiskey 180ml,
05. 01 bottle Old Monk ### Rum 750ml,
06. 15 tin of Kingfisher Beer 500ml

The individual was detained and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. The accused have been identified as: Farooq Ahmad Ganie S/O Ghulam Nabi R/O Bunpora Langate of Kupwara District.

Upon this case FIR no. 25/2023 under relevant sections of Excise act has been registered in Police station Sopore and further investigation taken up.

Seven persons arrested by Pulwama Police, involved in killing of farm fishes at Batnoor Shahoora.

On 13/2/2023 Police post Lassipora received a written complaint from one Manzoor Ahmad Mir S/O Ab Salaam Mir R/O Bathnoor Shahoora stated therein that some unknown persons have mixed some poisonous substance in water due to which thousands of fishes died in his fish farm at Bathnoor area of Litter Pulwama.
Upon this information Case FIR NO 9/2023 U/S 428 IPC was registered at PS Litter and investigation taken up. During the course of investigation of the case, by utilizing technical and human resources many suspects were called for questioning from where it has came to surface that some persons have used Bleaching powder for catching fishes at Canal which acted as a source of water for said fish farm, due to which the farm fishes got killed. All the accused persons involved in the act have been arrested.
General public of the area have hailed the role of police for timely action against the accused persons.
