Ending the year on a high note - got two notifications this week that a client was quoted in Penny Hoarder (12-17 million unique viewers per month on their site, they also have a pretty big FB following and their answers appear there, too), GoBanking Rates (8.5 million uvpm) and Yahoo Finance (93 million uvpm) all with backlinks.

Year in review for one client:

# of HARO (help a reporter out) queries reviewed: 49642 (don't track the # of other pitches I review but it's minimum 20 a day)
895 that were in their area of expertise
348 ( # that seemed specific enough to their expertise to warrant a second look)
83 ( # of pitches submitted)
14 ( # of pitches publised).

Over 100 million people -look at the websites monthly where these were published.

If this were AD SPEND to be on these sites which include: aol, msn, nasdaq, yahoo finance, and more, it would probably cost well over a MILLION dollars for one of these in a year.

All but two of these included a backlink to their site

In addition to the marketing I do, I’ve been helping new business owners grow their businesses with planning and strategy sessions. (You know as a (more than) FT employee I helped run 2 multi-million dollar companies I helped double in size and revenue, right?)

A few recent successes:
One started a catering business with never having done more than being a waiter and in the last month has now done two successful parties with more planned.

Another got some referrals for their real estate business with homes that sold within a few weeks - faster than they had experienced in the past.

Another got requests for 3 proposals in ONE week with 2 more saying contact them after the New Year. This was after running his business for 7 months and only getting 2 clients.

Some others have actually shut down - figuring out they didn’t have the time or energy to put in the work to make it grow so they’d rather work for someone else. This is NOT a bad thing - entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone.

I’m really proud of their success and that I had a small part to play in helping them achieve it. It helps every business owner to have someone who isn’t emotionally connected to it to take a look from the outside and see what can be optimized.

Most business owners KNOW they *should* be doing marketing.

But they don't for several reasons.

Often they don't know what they should be doing meaning what brings in the most money.

And even more often they revert to doing the kind THEY like even though they aren't their ideal customer. (If you're not buying from you, your opinion doesn't matter)

Add to the fact that when the economy takes a hit, many stop marketing. Or they cut their budgets drastically. (think about it, if your competitor is cutting their marketing budget and you are too, who gets the customers? the one not cutting their budget)

Make the most important the most important.

So often I see people who are getting distracted by little things. I spoke with a person who wants to start a food truck business and he's spent months coming up with a menu before even looking at what he needs to do to license this food truck. Or look at costs of the food. Or consider where he needs to make and store the food.

I’m amazed by the number of hypocrites on here who claim to be Christian (tip - I know you’re not by your actions) so against giving women the right to chose yet they WAH baby about putting a piece of cloth on their face because “no one should control me.”
I had family die from C.
I have family with compromised immune systems due to genetics and health conditions.
I am a solo parent to a teen.
Vaccines work.
Masks work.
