Perkins Homeless Encampment. This video was taken in South Oxnard on Perkins and McWane. Oxnard PD is working diligently to police this camp but the city manager stated that it was a “housing issue”. A simple conversation with any of these homeless people would show that it’s a mental health and drug issue.

Incident: Body found in river bottom
Location: Santa Clara Riverbed near Ventura Road
Date/Time: 1/9/23, 9:09pm
Deceased: Christina Lorenzen, 35y/o

On January 9, we received a 9-1-1 call from a male reporting that his female friend, later identified as Christina Lorenzen, was in the Santa Clara Riverbed, yelling for help as flood waters were rising. We immediately transferred the call to the Ventura County Fire Department Dispatch Center a rescue effort could be launched.

A swift water rescue effort was initiated, using several resources from the Ventura County Fire, the Ventura Fire Department, and the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, including a Search and Rescue team and helicopter. The rescue resources were unable to locate Lorenzen during their effort.

On January 10, the same caller from the previous evening called again and indicated that he had found Lorenzen deceased in the riverbed. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified, and they responded to conduct their own investigation.

Before the rain event and flooding, efforts were made by multiple public safety agencies to notify people residing in or frequenting the riverbeds, that a large storm system was approaching, and the riverbeds were likely to flood. Those contacted were informed that it was dangerous to be in the riverbeds, and they were offered services and information about foul weather shelters.
