The transfer case is the key component to everything we do. Trent McGee has written the book on how to repair and rebuild them based on his years of experience in the shop and as an automotive journalist. Our friends at CarTech Books have sent a sample copy to me for review. I'll have it in a few days but I already know what I'm going to find, a whole lot of stuff I didn't know. I can't wait.

The first stop on our CRAWL Across America was the Yukon Adventure Trek 3 in Arizona. It's the annual gathering of a group of people that have wheeled together in some vastly different locations. The CRAWL HQ is back at the homestead after 7,778 miles, 47 days, 18 states, 10 feature shoots, four Readers Rides, three On The Inside shop tours and only 1,000 gallons of diesel. The Jeep still works, the dog is happy and the clothes are in the wash. The spring piece of the tour is over and we'll be back out this summer and fall so stay tuned. Grateful to Yukon Gear & Axle for the support and the motivation to continue.

The wind has been breezy all day making the hot weather tolerable. The wheeling however has been fantastic. Day one of The Readers Ride at Wolf Caves, LLC is almost over but we're here through Monday. Come on down and be part of the CRAWL Across America's last stop this spring.

CRAWL Across America Update:

Minnesota did not disappoint. Neither will Wolf Caves this Memorial Day weekend. Come on out!

We had a nice turnout for a sketchy weather weekend that instead turned out really well. Here's a quickly selected photo dump that is representative of the 750+ images I captured, no post work on these.

Next stop is Texas and we'd love to finish our CRAWL Across America on a high note. Special thanks to Yukon Gear & Axle for the support to make this possible. We've knocked out 5300 miles and only 2400 to go.

When you've been busy and get a chance to wind down for a few days, it's best to do it with world class cheese from Guggisberg. Cruising around Berlin, Ohio, the foals are out, the first cutting of hay is still drying in the fields and John has a new cheese head hat. All is right with the world and this slightly slower pace is welcome before the next stop in the CRAWL Across America tour.

This weekend, Friday to Sunday morning, the CRAWL Across America makes a tour stop at The Good Evening Ranch in West Virginia. All are welcome to come out for our CRAWL Readers Ride.
Wheeling in West Virginia is one of the great East Coast locations and I'm looking forward to GER wheeling for the first time. Hope to see you this weekend.

Readers Ride #1 is in the books after a sloppy rainy muddy day of wheeling in Uwharrie, North Carolina. Yesterday was one for the books. It took nearly $12 worth of quarters to get the Jeep clean but we had a good time. The trails were challenging with traction being an issue if not aired down to minimums. We had a good turnout despite the nonstop rain and everyone was ready to do battle with the elements. The CRAWL Across America 2024 with Yukon Gear & Axle continues next weekend at Good Evening Ranch in West Virginia.

It's the season for tires. From Hankook, a fresh new set of 37s to try out. These are Dynapro XTs, a cross between a highway tread and a more aggressive MT. They're three peak rated and they say the compound is designed around long wear and chip/cut resistance. Can they hack the daily grind and the High Sierra trails? We'll do our best to find out.

The first stop on our trip this year is in Arizona for the Yukon Gear & Axle Adventure Trek 3. We don't know the route, we don't what we're seeing and the conditions we'll be in are a mystery. We skipped the pavement and a normal four hour drive from Park City to Moab and instead took five days and over 500 miles offroad. Adventure is alive & well.

Getting ready for the 2024 CRAWL Across America tour and needed some extra space. I added a Rhino Rack to the 2-door JK so Mrs. CRAWL can ride in the rig instead of on the bumper. I'll shove my Gazelle T4 ground tent up there and life will be good. I hope you don't think I'm going all overlandy but storage space in a 2-door is at a premium. The Pioneer platform has a lot of options and this is going to solve some problems. Stay tuned for tour info, it's coming soon with as many as four Readers Rides.

This issue makes me happy. Grant's Jeepster is done and has been wheeled. The tech articles that you've seen for the last two years have resulted in a very nice rig true to its heritage and yet ready for whatever Grant throws at it. I'm glad we got to play a part in watching it become a moving and breathing vehicle again.

New shoes for the CRAWL2 JK. The Icon Recon Pro beadlocks with rash guards finally got some new rubber last night. The Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs went on when my favorite mobile tire guy came over. John Lay of Spinnin' Tires is familiar with the ICON Vehicle Dynamics InnerLock beadlock wheel, a DOT approved beadlock. He had them on in no time flat and balanced, ready to go. These are heading out on the the CRAWL Across America Tour 2024 with Yukon Gear & Axle in April. Stay tuned!
