Just to state a fact: Quale Press will not be inclined to join pre-SuperBowl festivities in Kansas City. However, we will channel Firesign Theater and perform a version of How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All by simultaneously eating blue crabs in Baltimore while dancing in the streets of Detroit. When we reach AnywhereAtAll, we will break out in a rousing rendition of "Whatever, It Is, I'm Against It."

But if you do go to Kansas City, possibly in search of Taylor Swift, go check out the Small Press Distribution table in the Book Fair, and two of our recent titles.

Just realized that Quale has been in existence for 25 years. Happy silver anniversary to us! Sorry to say, but a massive blowout celebration is not in the immediate forecast. In the meantime, we will maintain steadfast quietude and deal out abundant sarcasm as the situation demands. If you want to help us out, buy our books (go to www.quale.com).

Over and out.

Effective August 1 Quale Press's "distributor" (and we use the term very loosely) Small Press Distribution (SPD) will be raising annual fees to presses to $420 a year and $50 to "list" new titles. In return for this privilege, SPD lists Quale's titles for sale at its physical store and its online store, also taking a substantial percentage of book sales. There is really no sales representation going on. Even Amazon does not charge an annual fee or a fee to list titles to sell online. Looks like Quale's days at SPD are numbered and we need to shift to selling our books directly from our website. There have been problems with management the last couple years at SPD and its governing board has spent an unaccounted amount of money that now will be shouldered by small presses.

All we can say right now is Small Press Distribution? Small Press Bu****it.

Gian Lombardo’s recent book of prose poems is Bricked Bats. Lately, he also translated Maurice de Guérin’s The Centaur & The Bacchante. More often than not, he’s looking at Long Island Sound.

Newly dropped by Quale! Newest standalone translations of Maurice de Guérin's "The Centaur" and "The Bacchante" in thirty years. Two excellent early examples of prose poems with extended narratives.

Our fearless director has translations of Bertrand and de Guérin in this excellent anthology.

Also new from BWP: "Beginnings Of the Prose Poem-All Over the Place" - Edited by Mary Ann Caws and Michel Delville. Available now for order! We are hoping that the readers of this anthology will both encounter something new, and feel inspired to remember other texts admired and loved, perhaps more poetically than prosaically. Even as the prose poem occupies a controversial space, hovering between genres, its reach is vast, as is the selection here from Blake in the late 18th century to Kharms in the 1920s. The multiply diverse tones range from the ironic and sharp-witted to a lyric flow, and the poets, from the more familiar to the less so, from the occidental to the oriental, from the expected, like the cubist prose poets Jacob and Reverdy, and from the well-known writers, like Colette, Wilde, Rilke, and Kafka, to the less expected: novelists like Joyce and Woolf, and the lesser-known in a joyous mixture of voices.

Not the best of times to have a business beginning in the letter "Q" for branding. Oh, f**k.

Please buy our books anyways. We have nothing to do with the deep state.

Having a helluva AWP in La Marais.

AWP? Quale will be everywhere and nowhere there. Remember the Quale, that's all we have to say.

14/02/2020

Quale will be so into AWP this year, we will be crawling around Le Marais in Paris shouting the wonders of the bookfair to every tourist we meet.
