What does a WhyTry for Corrections class look like, and what does it take to offer this program? People ask me, "Why drag your show into a prison, Jodie? Why not work with at-risk kids so they don't become criminals?"

My answer is these are my "kids." These men are going to be released back into society with social and emotional life skills they didn't have before incarceration, and that, trust me, has a ripple effect on their families and in their communities.

It's that time again where I ask for support for our Ridgeland Toastmasters prison club. We're gearing up for an OPEN HOUSE. Oour goal is to grow the club from 20 to 30 members. We've got a reputation for being an excellent program, but many inmates would love to join a public speaking and leadership program while behind bars but they are unable to pay bianual memberhips dues. A senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left. Amazing, he thought as he flew down I-94, pushing the pedal even more.
Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a state trooper behind him, lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, What am I doing? I'm too old for this, and pulled over to await the trooper's arrival.
Pulling in behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a reason for speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."
The old gentleman paused. Then he said, "Years ago, my wife ran off with a state trooper. I thought you were bringing her back."
"Have a good day, sir," replied the trooper 😁😁😁

I started facilitating a Creative Writing class at Ridgeland Correctional Institute. The big news is we're now involved in a pilot program using PEN America's curriculum and this prison volunteer is getting paid. So far the curriculum hasn't arrived,so I'm using exercises from my DO THE WRITE THING WORKSHOPS/book. This week participants will be dissecting my GRAND PRIZE WINNER story that I wrote a long time ago. They're going to identify the storytelling techniques used to make my point, add pizzazz from what they've learned so far, and identify the point of the story. THIS should be interesting!

Although I couldn’t share the book trailer on my iPad at the Allendale Correctional Book Club (no internet), I was able to share with the inmates many stories not in the book. Was told I had them glued to their seats for the entire hour. I read some, got to know them some, and it was really good to get back into the institution after a long furlough due to Covid. The question I asked them to share with me…What makes you interesting and what did you do as a child that brought you joy. We bonded, right?

Finally! Hubby used his gift certificate he received as one of two lucky winners at Central Church Father's Day service. We played the Robert Trent Jones course in Palmetto Dunes... until it rained on the 14th hole, which was okay by us. Had some great shots in between some not so good ones. Also okay by us. Hey business owners and community leaders!
I’m looking for 10 people who want to work with me over 2 days to outline and prevalidate their book idea. I want to help business owners and people who influence others replace their business card with a book.
Specifically, I’m looking for people who:
- are willing to validate that they’re an (if not the) expert in their industry
- have an established email list of 200 to 500 people who receive email regularly
- are easily coachable, open to feedback, and believe they can do more good
