How to plan the perfect trip to Italy! Here is everything you need to know as you plan your summer trip to Italy! First stop, Rome, the eternal city!
🗺️ As you can see in the pictures, the crowds are endless during summertime in Italy! So be sure to book all of your tours and excursions for either the first slot in the morning or the latest slot in the day, so you can avoid the busiest times of day. We also made sure to do smaller group tours, which was really nice.
✈️ First things first, let’s talk flights. Rome has the most direct flight options and tends to be the least expensive from the major USA airports, so it’s a great city to start with!
💴 Italy runs on Euros and a lot of small businesses will not take credit cards, so make sure to stop by an ATM. For the best exchange rates, go to an ATM at a bank and avoid using ones in touristy areas.
🇮🇹 English is widely spoken, but Italians appreciate the effort in trying to learn some basic words/phrases, so why not sprinkle in a little “grazie” and “ciao” for that extra flair?
🏨 Accommodation-wise, the options are endless! From cozy Airbnbs tucked away in Trastevere to luxurious hotels boasting views of the Colosseum, there’s something to suit every taste and budget.
⛲️ Must see stops!!!
Visit Colosseum and wander through the Roman Forum
Throw a Coin into the Trevi Fountain
Explore the Vatican City
Climb to the Top of St. Peter’s Basilica
Admire the Pantheon
Eat all the pasta and gelato!
👟 Be prepared to walk miles and miles every day, there is a metro system, but you will still be walking and exploring for hours every day, so bring comfy shoes! Another fun option is renting a vespa and oh so romantic, but be careful those roman drivers.
🧣It’s important to bring a light jacket or scarf, since your shoulders and knees, have to be covered when entering any churches.
