ROAD CLOSURE - U.S. 231 in White County

INDOT maintenance crews will be conducting seal coating operations resulting in a road closure on U.S. 231 beginning on or after Monday, August 5. U.S. 231 will be closed between U.S. 24 and I-65 during daytime work hours for approximately four days. The official detour for this closure will follow U.S. 24 and I-65.

Through traffic should utilize the detour or seek an alternate route. Local traffic should exercise caution and follow traffic directions carefully in the area where work is occurring. This work is weather dependent, and the schedule is subject to change.

The chip seal process consists of distributing a liquid asphalt emulsion on the roadway and covering the liquid asphalt with crushed stone to provide a new wearing surface. Once the asphalt has cured, any excess chips left on the roadway are swept from the surface and a fog seal is applied.
