The right chair for guitar tracking is whichever chair the guitarist feels the most comfortable tracking in. And then again, sometimes the guitarists prefer standing. Either way, we're after the best performance possible and more often than not, this chair gets the job done.

Do you record standing up or sitting down?

Going six months without a set of drums in my house while we were moving was torture. It's been a long time since I couldn't sit down and play any time I felt like it. Glad to have it set up again.

After trying out a more open concept for vocal tracking, we decided to build a dedicated vocal booth in the new studio instead. With the high ceilings and open hardwood floors, the studio wasn't a great option. No matter, we spent a lot of time making sure the new booth would be a comfortable place to hang out and track vocals.

Testing these out in our new and much larger drum room has been a dream come true. These Neumann's were worth the wait. Paired up with a great drummer and great cymbals will really make these shine.

If I had to pick an instrument other than drums to perform live, I'd love to try bass. Just something about that crowd shaking low end that would be fun.

The new chill spot for bands in the studio has a pretty good view. Gotta get some furniture and twinkle lights to set the mood and we'll be ready to go.

What else should be put out on the band deck?

They may look funny but these diffusers placed on the backwall behind my listening position make a huge difference. There was this echo coming off the back wall before but now the sound scatters instead of hitting me in the back of the head. It's a more enjoyable listening experience.

The most tedious part of setting up a new mix room is positioning the monitors. It's a brutally slow day of listening, measuring, listening again, breaking out the mirrors, and listing some more. But in the end, the payoff is totally worth the price. Sitting in the "sweet spot" and listening to your favorite albums is priceless.

Drummers! Take pity on the sound guy and make a little room for drum mics. There's nothing like shoving a microphone in between a bunch of toms and cymbals to make your snare sound like garbage. A little extra space goes a long way to a better sound.

A classmate once said he could "see into the future" with these same Amphion monitors we bought for the studio. I can't see into the future but they've sounded great in the last three rooms I've had them in. It's almost like they're future proof.

I used to mix with my eyes when I was just starting out. Once I learned to close my eyes and mix with my ears, my EQ moves looked a lot different. It's not wrong if it sounds good.
