I still find jamming on a real amp inspiring. There's often a completely different type of writing flow that comes out of me when plugged into a real amp. Don't get me wrong, I love the flexibility of digital amps but real air being moved by real speakers just stirs up different feelings.

I grew up balancing digital audio with analogue audio. The older I get, the more I live solely in the digital audio world. But I still get a little giddy when I get to play with analogue gear. Just putting your hands on the switches and making a connection that's not just clicking a mouse is a whole other vibe.

Confession time. I have no idea what those little string holder down things are on the headstock. I only see them on bass guitars. And they're only on the higher strings? What gives?

After playing on the A Custom line from Zildjian for so many years, anything less bright just sounds dull. Even so, I'm still looking forward to expanding our backline of cymbals to include a few choice pieces from Sabian and Soultone here soon. What's a larger crash you couldn't live without that just works regardless of genre?

I'm usually a black guitar kind of guy but this Jackson really makes me want a neon Dingwall bass guitar. Those shocking colors just look soooooo good photographed IMO.

I'm thinking a couple of Adirondack chairs would make this a great spot for bands to hang out on tracking days. Or maybe a BBQ to do a little grillin'? What would you do with this space if you were hosting bands?

Trying to spend an hour behind the kit every evening. Maybe I should incorporate ankle weights so I can count this as exercise as well. Either way, I can feel my endurance returning after a long time away from the kit and it feels good.

Spent the weekend rewiring the PA system and getting closer to being able to jam with friends. Just a few more tests on the PA and I can move on to the bass and guitar rigs.

Let's hear from the ENGL fans in the house. Never heard a bad sound out of one of these kings. Low end reminds me of Mesa's and you know I love me a Mesa Boogie. Always a great result carving up tones for reamping.

Raise your hand if you're a fan of Jackson Guitars. I've never met a Jackson player I didn't like, they're all super unique people. And I've never had a bad Jackson brought to the studio. Always impressed.
