Happy Royal Oak Day! Here’s the OG Royal Oak
Today is the date on which Parliament mandated the perpetual giving of thanks for the restoration of the Stuarts in 1660.
I visited the place where Charles II his as a young fugitive in 1651 in an oak. It’s next to Boscobel House, Shropshire. The current oak is the child of that 17th C oak because it was ripped apart by souvenir hunters. When this one was hit by lightning, Prince Charles planted the grandchild of the Royal Oak next to it

80 years ago allied forces began the liberation of north west Europe. It was the largest seaborne invasion in history. It was 6 June, 1944. D-day.
