On this National Day of Mourning for all of our indigenous peoples, I think of my ancestors, who endured genocide at the hands of the English. Over 10,000 of my Pequot people died between 1636 and 1638 in a very young "America." Today, even as the country "celebrates" yet another year with what they call Food, Fun, and football (and the Macy's Day Parade), they are oblivious that they get to do this all on indigenously stolen Land. That is the untold truth about America. If you read this post and watch our videos, please take time from today through the upcoming new year to learn something about us. Find indigenous Educators. Contact Tribal Historic Preservation Offices. Attend Native American Cultural Events. Read articles and blog posts from Native American writers.
