The irrigation season for MRGCD farmers is gearing up. If you want information on the season, Farmers for Future Farmers is hosting MRGCD Chief Engineer Jason Casuga at its March 12 meeting at 6 pm. Casuga will be answering questions at the meeting. The meeting will be held at 4 Daughters Land and & Cattle Co, 3211 NM-47 in Los Lunas , New Mexico. Most farmers have noticed the ditches are currently charged and almost ready to go! A news release from the MRGCD anticipates that the main ditches should be fully charged by mid March with irrigation ready to start. Of course, it depends on weather and the amount of water that is available.

Farmers want to take part in water use decisions in the MRGCD
A new sheriff and posse have come to the Middle Rio Grande Valley. A group of farmers have banded together to make sure the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD) responds to the farmers. The organization Farmers for Future Farmers (FFF) is an organization to help farmers voice their grievances and concerns to the MRGCD board of directions and to the management of the MRGCD.
“ The farmers are the steward of the ecosystem of valley, and we no longer trust the MRGCD to manage our invaluable resources to maintain and conserve our farmland for future generations,” the founding document from the FFF states.
