Big Brothers Big Sisters BIG Breakfast event raises $240,000+
Earlier this month, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati celebrated mentoring and the impact it has on all of us at its 5th annual BIG Breakfast event, and the Tri-State came out in force with support. More than 300 community leaders at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center were present to both honor four Cincinnati construction leaders for their community leadership and to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati:

The BIG Breakfast fundraising event was co-chaired by Ben Haenning of Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Kyle Shumate of Clark Schaefer Hackett, and hosted by Rico Grant of Paloozanaire and Jamie Smith of the Business Courier.

The BIG Breakfast raised $240,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati. In a mission-focused moment, Big Brother Jay Shatz and his now grown-up Little Brother Andrew McClanahan shared stories of their two-decade long friendship—the challenges and the successes, and their gratitude to Big Brothers Big Sisters for constant support, advice and encouragement. They told the audience their friendship has been life changing.

In 1954, Congress passed the bill that President Eisenhower signed proclaiming Nov. 11 as Veterans Day. This is a special day across our nation that honors military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The history behind this day and why it is unique to Nov. 11 is because major hostilities of World War I formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th month of 1918. Also, Veterans Day was previously named Armistice Day. Armistice Day is the day that the fighting ended on land, sea and air between the Allies and the Germans.

So on Nov. 11 we celebrate and recognize all veterans for their service and sacrifice.
