🚨Why I stopped painting everything ⤵️ • Trends change. At one time, as long as you had a gallon of white paint and a brush, you could make some money quick! We painted everything - furniture, hinges, hardware, lamps...you name it, we painted it. But as we age, our taste changes. I find myself looking for the classic styles that stand the test of time. Gone are the days of heavy distressing, chipped paint (unless authentic) and chalk paint. At least for me, that's the case. 2. I educated myself. I never knew there was paint grade and stain grade wood in my early years. Now, after countless hours of compilation, I'm able to look at a piece and determine what would look best with the type of wood or veneer on each piece. Also, I educated myself of true antiques. While it's not true that paint destroys all antiques, there are some pieces that truly do bring more profit when restored or at least refinished in stain. Learn the market you're targeting to see what will be best for you. 3. The last but most important reason - my skill level grew. The ugly truth is that I used to paint everything because that's all I knew how to do. The thought of stripping any piece was daunting and exhausting. There were pieces I messed up and pieces that took 5 times as long to complete because I didn't know what I was doing. That's why I drive myself to learn better techniques. Now, I can usually strip an entire dresser in a couple of hours. My point? Don't get complacent. I still LOVE paint! (And you can find it in my @etsy shop) But I'm thankful for the versatility I've gained as an artist, and I hope this encourages you to step out of the box, too. 🚨Where did they sell?⤵️ I often speak about how important it is to market your pieces well. While platforms you use do make a difference, what's most important is building return client relationships. Why? Because both of these pieces were sold to return clients. They were happy to make a large investment because they trusted us. The platforms we use are Facebook Marketplace and Etsy as well as advertising on our website and social media pages. One client seen it listed on our Facebook business page and the other had stopped by our shop to say hi and seen it as we were staging. 🚨What is it? A circa 1920s haberdasher cabinet used for tailoring material and clothing. This one was by Pollards from Clerkenwell London. 🚨What did we use? All products linked in my @amazon • @howard_products Restor-A-Finish in Walnut and Feed-N-Wax to restore the finish and oil the interior • Brasso to clean and polish the hardware • Rub N Buff to brighten the hardware . . . #savedbydesign #furnituredesign #furnitureflip #restoration #antique #london #franklintn #paintedfurniture #home #homedecor #flip #history kindly follow my page thank you

How did I know the age? The first things I always check are the locks (if there are any). I've found that you have a good chance of locating a patent date for the lock or at least the maker of the lock. This with some research can help you to estimate the era of the piece. It doesn't stop there, though. A careful study of the construction on the joints, drawer bottoms and back, type of wood used, makers marks, etc. will help you to begin identifying pieces by eye. I can't stress enough that it's also important to do research to educate yourself on the styles of furniture and when they were most prevalent. Those things combined together will help you to make an educated guess if you're unable to find a definitive date. . . . #savedbydesign #furniture #furnituredesign #homeinspo #homedecor #zibrapainting #history #antique kindly follow my page thank you

What is it?⤵️ This story is worth reading. We found this antique wardrobe it was tucked away in the corner of a storage unit in a small Tennessee town. Who would've guessed the history it held? After talking to the owner, this is what we found... The mid 1970s, a young U.S. Army couple was stationed in Alconbury, just outside of London. The wife was pregnant with her daughter (the lady we purchased from) and put shopping in the countryside for furniture to fill their new home. She came across a large country home that was having an estate sale. She purchased a matching wardrobe, dresser, linen chest, bed and buffet. Those pieces had been with the same English family sonce they were made. By 1976, it was loaded onto a military ship following the couple back home to the states. She cherished those pieces for the rest of her days. Spoiler alert, we ended up purchasing that whole set. The wardrobe, buffet, chest and dresser were sold earlier this year. After more digging, we found a date of September 16, 1927 on the wardrobe. The hardware marks led to the discovery that it was made on Norfolk, England. The buffet was dated back to the mid 1800s with a stamped markers mark inside the drawer. Let me know if you want to see the final result of this wardrobe⤵️ . . . #savedbydesign #furniture #furnituredesign #antique #homeinspo #homedecor #history #paintedfurniture #zibrapainting #pain#paintingworkshop kindly follow my page thank you

Comment ✨️ LIST ✨️ for the products used sent straight to your inbox! So when does it ruin antiques?⤵️ If you have a piece that has any historical significance such as a well known maker with a signature mark, a documented tie to a historical figure or something that was used in a historical location/event - those items should not be refinished unless commissioned by the owner or yourself after you've had an appraiser review the item. Let's talk about this in the comments! . . . #savedbydesign #furniture #furnituredesign #woodworking #antique #paintedfurniture #zibrapainting #homedecor #homeinspo #apartmenttherapy kindly follow my page thank you
This works for paint and stain⤵️ 1. Brush on - We use a basic chip brush. Brush it on liberally and allow it to set for 15 - 20 minutes. Touch up any areas that dry out during that time. Some stubborn finishes may require repeat applications. Comment ✨️ STRIP ✨️ for the link to our supplies sent straight to your inbox! Note: If you receive a message that says Get Updates, it may be because you're using the web page instead of the app. If you receive a blank message, make sure you're following me or it may show as spam. 2. Scrap off - Use a solvent proof plastic scraper to remove the excess. We use a plastic drop sheet to collect the runoff residue on the floor that makes for easy cleanup. 3. Scrub with water - this is the key trick. Use a scrub brush with water to scrub down the residue. This works great for detailed areas that are difficult to sand. You can use After Wash instead of water if desired, but it isn't necessary. 4. Wipe down with wet cloth - We use a terry cloth rag to wipe down the surface. Rinse in the water and wipe again. Allow to dry at least 24 hours before proceeding. 5. Fine finish sanding - Each piece varies. We use 220 grit most often to do a light finish sand to even out the color. Use your discretion as to what grit is needed. . . . #savedbydesign #furnituredesign #furnitureflip #diy #paintedfurniture #homeinspo #homedecor #home #paint#paintingoftheday kindly follow my page thank you
