Cleveland County artist James Bond debuts his first solo exhibition, In the Company of Paintings, this October at Uncanny Art House on Main Street in Norman. Bond’s paintings capture fleeting moments and extend them into site-responsive works. In this immersive exhibition, those moments coalesce into a moody, 1920s-inspired world where paintings don’t just hang, they inhabit the room with the viewer. The show opens October 10 during Norman’s Art Walk, and follows with a jazz masquerade on October 25 featuring jazz collective The Butter & The Genre.

🍷 Winemaker of the Month: Mike and Mara English, Water's Edge Winery - Moore 🍷

For Mike and Mara English, entrepreneurship comes naturally. “Waters Edge Winery is our third business,” Mara said. “We think of ourselves as entrepreneurs who are trying to bring new things to our area.”

In 2021, the couple purchased Waters Edge Winery and relocated it from Oklahoma City to Moore.

“Mike has lived in Moore most of his life, so when this opportunity came up, we just wanted to bring something new to the community,” Mara said.
At Waters Edge Winery, grapes and juice are sourced from around the world, fermented and bottled on-site.

“We try to have a nice selection so people walk in and have more to choose from than a winery that focuses on a couple of wines in wine country somewhere,” Mike said.

Their mission is to create a space where everyone feels comfortable.

“Our establishment is a place where you can learn and experiment without spending a lot of money,” Mara said. “If you know everything about wine or nothing about wine, come and enjoy it and maybe you will find something new.”

Wine, for them, is about connection. “You do not necessarily remember the notes of the wine, but you remember the memories,” Mara said.

That belief shapes their events, which range from SINGO on Thursdays to live music on Fridays, trivia on Sundays, and private parties during the week.

“We are kid-friendly,” Mara said, “It is not like a bar atmosphere, it is more like a coffee-shop-meets-winery.”

The Englishes say watching guests grow in their wine journey is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

“It is enjoyable when we see people go from liking sangria, a really sweet wine, to only wanting to drink dry red,” Mike said.

For Mara, it all comes down to the spirit of sharing. “Wine is not a solo activity. It is meant to be shared with your family and friends.”
