Chag Sameach! The offerings of the bikkurim (first fruits) brought to the Temple in Jerusalem on Shavuot were only from these seven species. On what merit are these fruits selected?

Nogah Hareuveni, author of numerous books on Judaism and nature, explains that the flowering and fruiting of the seven species take place during the period between Passover and Shavuot, a season depending on the delicate balance between contradictory forces of nature.

The flowering and fruiting of the seven species parallel our own spiritual development during the season between Passover and Shavuot, characterized by self-improvement and preparation for receiving the Torah . As we count the Omer during the 49 days between Passover and Shavuot, we turn to God in repentance and prayer. Since the fruiting of the seven fruits is linked to our own spiritual achievement, it is not surprising that these seven kinds comprise a wealth of spiritual attributes, nutrients, and medicinal properties.

A famous symbol of Shavuot are The Seven Species (Hebrew: שבעת המינים‎, Shiv'at HaMinim). These are seven agricultural products - two grains and five fruits - which are special products of the Land of Israel. The seven species are wheat, barley, grape, fig, pomegranates, olive (oil), and date (honey).
One of the holiday's traditions is eating of dairy products. Although the reasons for this custom are not completely clear, it has become traditional to eat milk and cheese products as part of the celebration of Shavuot. Maybe it is because of the ancient saying about Israel - "a land of milk and honey". Israeli families usually have a Shavuot dinner or lunch together, eating Pies, salads, fruits and off course - no Shavuot meal is complete without a slice of cheesecake!
Kids usually dress in white for school and bring with them baskets filled with crops like fruit and vegetables to celebrate the harvest festival. They usually have a show of dancing and singing, presenting the crops.
Happy Shavuot!

The Hebrew word Mussar appears in the Bible 51 times, more than half of them in the book of Proverbs. It carried a connotation of ethical instruction according to the teachings of the Torah. The ‘practice’ of Mussar is to intentionally train yourself to live a Torah based ethical life of integrity.
The root of Yirah is Yara and the meaning of the word yara is "to flow"… it is related to words meaning rain or stream as a flowing of water. It is that which flows out of your innermost being. To have ‘fear’ of God (better translated as ‘AWE’) is to act by following His instructions and seeking to emulate His character out of love for Him….it is about having an intimate relationship with God.
"So imitate God, as his dear children; and live a life of love, just as also the Messiah loved us, indeed, on our behalf gave himself up as an offering, as a slaughtered sacrifice to God with a pleasing fragrance…. For you used to be darkness; but now, united with the Lord, you are light. Live like children of light, for the fruit of the light is in every kind of goodness, rightness and truth — try to determine what will please the Lord." Ephesians 5:1, 8-10

When Yeshua rose from the dead, he spent 40 days during the Counting of the Omer with His disciples, recounting all of the Scriptures in the Old Testement (Tanakh) that pointed to Him and enlightening their minds, bringing them into unity with Him and each other.
”…starting with Moshe and all the prophets, He explained to them the things that can be found throughout the Tanakh concerning Himself.” Luke 24:27 CJB
Therefore, we do the same during this time. Everyday, we share Scriptures that point to Yeshua as the Messiah, the Prophecy and the Fulfillment.

After Sunset, recite the blessing.

ADONAI said to Moshe, "Tell the people of Isra'el, 'After you enter the land I am giving you and harvest its ripe crops, you are to bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the cohen. He is to wave the sheaf before ADONAI, so that you will be accepted; the cohen is to wave it on the day after the Shabbat.
On the day that you wave the sheaf, you are to offer a male lamb without defect, in its first year, as a burnt offering for ADONAI. Its grain offering is to be one gallon of fine flour mixed with olive oil, an offering made by fire to ADONAI as a fragrant aroma; its drink offering is to be of wine, one quart. You are not to eat bread, dried grain or fresh grain until the day you bring the offering for your God; this is a permanent regulation through all your generations, no matter where you live "'From the day after the day of rest -that is, from the day you bring the sheaf for waving -you are to count seven full weeks, until the day after the seventh week; you are to count fifty days; and then you are to present a new grain offering to ADONAI.
Leviticus 23:9-16

The virtue of patience is to bear or suffer something unpleasant or painful, without increasing the suffering. Seek to treat all people as though they are created in the divine image and act lovingly towards them, even if it hurts. Assume they are doing the best they can. If they are misbehaving, assume that they are themselves in pain, and try to forgive them.
“Patience,” is not something you lose and possess in limited quantity…. instead of suppressing anger, notice those feelings as they arise, and consider the loving and wise way to address the cause of your pain. Turn toward the wound compassionately… seek to view the offending party as human, flawed, in pain…discover a way to confront the other person in a way that allows her or him to hear your concern and your desire to forgive and reconcile. This approach requires a lot more strength than erupting and ‘losing’ your temper when someone offends.
10 The person who keeps loving his brother remains in the light, and there is nothing in him that could make him trip. 11 But the person who hates his brother is in the dark — yes, he is walking in the dark, and he doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1 John 2:10-11 CJB
To ‘make him trip’ is the word ‘skandalon’ in Greek (Strong’s #4625)…to offend and to take offense. It is the trigger in a trap where the bait is placed. When a person takes offense (or ‘the bait’) they are caught in the trap. An animal caught in a trap is in immense pain and lashes out at anyone who comes near even to try and help them get out of the trap. The message then is to NOT take the bait….choose to not be offended…stay calm and patient with the offender and be a light to lead them out of the darkness.
