The Galaxy on WDBX, 91.1 FM, Carbondale, IL A two hour radio program featuring music from the classical, jazz, country, bluegrass, rock and metal genres, with a focus on good musicianship

In February of 1996, the first volunteer meetings were held to organize WDBX. I was blessed to be able to participate in that meeting, having gotten a heads-up from my good friend Kevin Antonovich (RIP). I presented a 10 page proposal that outlined my show in great detail - a radio show that would rise above the restrictions of genre and style, and through direct contrast and implied comparison hi

ghlight the good that exists in many disparate styles of music. This proposal was accepted by Brian R. Powell, our original station manager, and I began this journey to musical enlightenment with my first broadcast on March 3, 1996. Over the course of the 20+ years that have followed that meeting, we have heard so much wonderful music that it defies the imagination. We have expanded the palette of what we play - we do a lot more Renaissance music now, and we also have added a bit of classic country over the years. But the keystones of our musical foundation continue to be classical, jazz, and various forms of rock music. We still hold true to our early mission statement, to explore that which is good in music, and to highlight the skill and creativity of great musicians from across the musical spectrum. Music from all corners of our musical Galaxy. What a beautiful journey!
