Several blackbirds are not happy with the hawk's presence. Hawks and eagles on my favorite birds, so I kind of feel sympathetic to the hawk.

Size
Great blue herons are the largest heron in North America, growing up to 4.5 ft tall with a wingspan of 5.5–6.6 ft. However, they are relatively lightweight at only 5–6 lbs due to their hollow bones.
Hunting
Great blue herons are active hunters that can hunt day or night thanks to their excellent night vision. They stalk their prey, which can include fish, frogs, salamanders, turtles, snakes, insects, rodents, and birds, for up to 90% of their waking hours. They use their strong beaks to grab prey or impale it with their dagger-like bills, then shake it to break its spine before swallowing it whole.
Flight
Great blue herons are graceful fliers that can cruise at speeds of 20–30 miles per hour.
Nesting
Great blue herons typically nest in colonies, building large nests high up in trees in February. The male chooses the nesting territory and attracts a female with displays, then she constructs the nest with sticks, twigs, bark strips, and conifer needles. The female lays 2–6 pale blue eggs, and both parents incubate them for 25–29 days. After hatching, the parents feed the young at the nest for two months before they can fly and continue to feed them for a few weeks after they leave the nest.
Other facts
Great blue herons have five confirmed subspecies, and the name "heron" may come from the Old French word hairon, which means "long necked, long legged wading bird." They also have specialized feathers on their chest that grow continuously and fray into a fine powder that they use to groom themselves and clean off fish slime.
