✨ Unveiling a Captivating Masterpiece! ✨

As a board member of the Saluda Shoals Foundation, I couldn't be more thrilled to share this incredible moment when we unveiled this awe-inspiring sculpture at the Saluda Shoals Park River Center last Tuesday! 🌳💫
We are grateful to have had the honor of hosting the immensely talented Babette Bloch, whose artistic brilliance has left us all in awe. 🎨 Her sculptural creation graces the park with its majestic presence, sparking inspiration and igniting our imaginations. Every intricate detail speaks volumes about her incredible talent and creativity. 🗿✨
But that's not all! We were doubly fortunate to have Babette's husband and renowned sculptor, Marc Mellon, as well. Together, their combined expertise has enriched our community, leaving an indelible mark on the artistic landscape. Their collaborative spirit and dedication to their craft have truly elevated the Saluda Shoals Park River Center to new heights. 🌟
This unveiling ceremony was a celebration of art, nature, and the unity they bring. The sculpture has found its perfect home amidst the beauty of Saluda Shoals Park, where it will inspire generations to come. 💚🌎

I had the absolute honor of capturing this incredible moment between two awesome siblings, showcasing the unbreakable bond between brother and sister. 👧👦🤩 Say hello to Ashton and Austin, the dynamic duo that knows how to have a blast together!

Spent the long weekend on a little getaway with the fam! and I surprised the boys with their first trip to Atlanta! We had such a great time with jam-packed family fun! 🤩
Day 1: We started the day off with an incredible visit to that included a BTS of their harbor seal habitat. It was so much fun learning about the animals and interacting with them! We then walked over to the to learn about its deliciously rich history! The boys even tasted "The Beverly!" 😝😵 We finished the evening with a wonderful visit with our cousin who recommended . The food was quite tasty and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The perfect end to a busy day!
Day 2: We headed out to . This place did not disappoint! Between the enormous wall of CFB helmets, as you walk in, to the number of interactive stations throughout, this place was awesome! 🏅🏈 We then headed over to and so we could shop till we dropped! 🥴
Day 3: Our final stop on our ATL tour was and this place was so cool! If you like dinosaurs, natural history, walking trails, and interactive technology, then this place is for you! 🐱‍🐉 🔬⚙
So many memories made and fun times had! We will definitely be back! ✌.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

We surprised the boys last Saturday with a trip to !
This place did not disappoint! After riding through their drive-thru safari where you can feed animals like, camels, ostriches, water buffaloes, Texas Longhorns, Llamas, and many more, we parked the car and headed in for their annual Fall Festival! 🍂🎃
Did I mention there were pig races?? aimed to deliver a great time with racing pigs! Gotta watch out for Tyrone, the Terrible!! 🐽 🐷 🐖🏁🏁🏁
I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves, but needless to say, the Salmon Family had a wonderful time! ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

South Carolina towers ranged from about 55' tall (atop Sassafras Mountain in Pickens County) to 120' tall. The taller towers were generally in the flatlands of the Coastal Plain.
SC Forestry Commission Tower:

Most tower sites consisted of 10 acres of land, the tower, and a year-round dwelling for the operator. The size of the property allowed tower operators to grow their own vegetables and feed for their domestic livestock. In the early days, most tower families had a milk cow, chickens, and raised a few hogs for their own use.
The tower operator’s hours in the tower cab depended on the fire danger. If it was raining, they didn’t go up at all; if danger was low, they might make a short check in the morning and afternoon; when danger was high, they might spend as much as ten hours per day in the cab.

When a smoke was spotted, each of two towers would record its direction using a large compass table and a sighting device called an alidade. The fire was located at the spot where these readings crossed when plotted on a map.

Towers were not routinely manned at night. During moderate to high danger, operators were required to make a "night check", climbing the tower after dark to check for glows.

Towers were the public’s fire reporting contact point, and served as the communications link for firefighters in the field.

From the 1960’s on, most South Carolina tower operators were women; frequently their husbands were employed as firefighters. In many cases, the tower became a family tradition, with adult children succeeding their parents as tower operators.

Truer words have never been spoken. This was taken a little over a year ago somewhere tucked away in the Nantahala National Forest.
