VIDEO: Tie Dye at the library Around the County is a presentation of Preferred Credit Union, located locally at 266 N. Jebavy Dr., Ludington. Video by Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief SCOTTVILLE -- On Wednesday, the Scottville branch of the Mason County District Library hosting a tie dye t-shirt event. The event was part of the library's weekly summer children's programs which are held at both the Ludington and Scottville branch libraries. Next week's programs will include reptile presentations from the Raven Hill Discovery Center: At 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, July 1 at the Ludington library, 217 E. Ludington AVe., and Tuesday, July 2 at the Scottville library, 204 E. State St. Children will be able to get up close to turtles, lizards and snakes. All library programs are free. Children under the ages of 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

In addition to dozens of flags lining the piers, Ludington Fire Department flew its large flag from its ladder truck, high over the channel.
The Mason County Historical Society held its inaugural Ghost Tour Saturday, June 1. Over 80 people on two buses explored the remnants of the Manistee & Grand Rapids Railroad (later the Michigan East & West Railroad), that ran from the mid-1890s to about 1920 on a route starting in Manistee and ending in Osceola County. The train travelled through Mason County’s Free Soil, Meade and Sheridan townships. Lots of excitement in Ludington Thursday morning as law enforcement pursued a black bear on the east side of the city. Here is some footage: UPDATE: LPD stated that the bear “safely returned to its natural habitat” and thanked the Michigan State Police and the Department of Natural Resources for their assistance.
