Aviation Maintenance Magazine • Aviation Maintenance has been a key voice in the MRO industry for more than 27 years. AVM goes out to 31,900 subscribers globally.
(14)

That’s 90,000 readers in 145 countries!
• Global in scope. Our pages cover North America, Europe, Asia and the rest of the world, in one publication. Although AVM has a very strong U.S. circulation, it has MORE international readers than any other publication that serves the MRO field. Importantly, AVM has a significant readership presence in the emerging growth markets of China, India, South East

Asia, and the Middle East.
• Verified by BPA Worldwide (May 2010). Don’t take our word for it – read our BPA statement!
• Widely respected and influential. AVM focuses on the GA/Business, Military, and Commercial sectors in MRO. Its core reader tends to be a senior level executive who is a decision-maker. Specifically, readers include engineers, technicians, mechanics, and pilots, at major and second tier airlines, as well as at third-party and branded MRO service centers. Because we’re not a purely technical magazine, we get a broader audience that relies on our incisive editorial content to make strategic decisions in the MRO sector.

Grace Kelly was 4 when she died in 2014. Frontier Airlines discovered she’s been flying all along.

It’s called a monkey wrench (among other names) in English, but not because monkeys invented it.

The actual inventor was a Baltimore mechanic called Charles Moncky. The tool’s name is the result of an intentional misspelling of his last name.

(Update: actually, no. This is an old, but false story. The monkey wrench was invented in the 1840s by Loring Coes, a Massachusetts industrialist and politician. I leave in the reference to Mr Moncky as evidence of the persistence of fake news, if it has a better/funnier story).

In many other languages, the tool is named after its presumed origin - but never the right one.

It’s called an ‘English key’ in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Turkish and a few other languages.

However, in the Balkans and far north into Eastern Europe, the preferred terminology is ‘French key’. As is the case in Iran as well.

Russians and Ukrainians, who agree on little else these days, both call it a ‘Swedish key’. So do the Macedonians and Israelis.
