Silver Sounds Records is primarily involved with creating custom music for the dance industry - including square dancing, round dancing & folk dancing. We produce music on vinyl records, CD's and MP3 files. SSR 429 - Islands In The Stream (vocal by Jack O'Leary and Deb Malsom)

Here's what Jack has to say about the song:

Islands in the Stream is a song written by the Bee Gees and recorded by American country music artists Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. Named after an Ernest Hemingway novel, it was released in August 1983 as the first single from Rogers's album Eyes That See in the Dark. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, giving both Rogers and Parton their second pop number-one hit. It also topped the Country and Adult Contemporary charts. It has been double certified Platinum and gold certified singles by the Recording Industry Association of America.

SSR 428 - Susie Darlin' (vocal by Jack O'Leary)

Jack has this to say about the song:

Susie Darlin' is a 1958 single by Robin Luke. Luke's rendition peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went to #1 on the CHUM Chart in 1958. A cover version by Tommy Roe had Susie Darlin' re-enter the Billboard Hot 100 in 1962 and peaked at #35. "Susie Darlin'" sold a million copies in the United States.

So put on your bobby sox and a poodle skirts and get ready to Be-Bop to this hit of the 50's and 60's.

New singing call for April: Gimme A Little Kiss SSR - 427 Called by Hans Pettersson

Here's some information about the song, and what's going on at Silver Sounds Music:

Gimme a Little Kiss was originally written in 1926, but became popular in1946 when Frank Sinatra
Dean Martin and other vocalists picked up the song and it became a best seller. Our friend Hans
Pettersson from Forshaga, Sweden provides the vocal on the square dance version of this song.

Silver Sounds along with 3 other square dance producing companies is working through a temporary

Sunshine Revival is a song written by Henry Kapono. Henry is a performer who has it all – vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, composer, thrilling performer, audience favorite—and multiple honors and awards, including a Grammy nomination. Henry's original songs with a rock vibe celebrate his love for his family, express his pride in his Hawaiian culture, and share his joy in his home in the Islands! He has received numerous awards for his music in his 40+ years as a composer/performer.

Sunshine Revival is one of Henry's most popular songs. Silver Sounds Records is pleased to welcome Tony Oxendine from Royal Records teaming up with Cory Geis for the square dance version of this Hawaiian duet. Take a listen. Mahalo!

SSR 426 - Live Until I Die (vocal by Mike Callahan)

Jack's notes on the song:

Live Until I Die, written by Clay Walker, debuted at number 67 on the U.S.Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart for the week of October 30, 1993. It reached Number One for the week of January 29, 1994 after twenty weeks on the chart, giving Clay his second consecutive Number One single. It also peaked at number 1 on the RPM Country Tracks charts in Canada.

Sillver Sounds Staff Caller, Mike Callahan delivers a smooth square dance version of the song using Plus choreography. Standard 64 beat phrasing allows for callers to substitute Mainstream figures. Enjoy!

Jack's notes say...
Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) is a song performed by Edison Lighthouse in 1970. It reached number one for the week ending 31 January 1970 on the UK singles chart, where it remained for a total of five weeks. Our square dance version captures the sound of the times. Give a listen.

SSR 423 - Play Me A Traveling Song (vocal by Dan Nordbye)

Here are Jack's notes on the new release:
This month marks the return of Dan Nordbye to the Silver Sounds microphone with a smooth rendition of a song that was written and recorded in 1976 by the late Mac Davis. Play Me A Little Traveling Music was also recorded by the late B.J.Thomas and again in 1980 by Roy Clark. While never a blockbuster, the song has endured through the years. If you're looking for a smooth relaxer, give this one a listen.

Here are Jack's notes on the song:

Cheers is an American sitcom television series that ran on NBC from September 30, 1982, to May 20, 1993, with a total of 275 half-hour episodes across 11 seasons. The show is set in a real-life bar and namesake Cheers in Boston, where a group of locals meet to drink, relax and socialize.

During its run, Cheers became one of the most popular series in history and received critical acclaim from its start to its end. In 1997, the episodes Thanksgiving Orphans and Home Is The Sailor, aired originally in 1987, were respectively ranked No. 7 and No. 45 on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time. Its series finale was watched by an estimated 93 million viewers, almost 40% of the US population at the time.

We have reworked the recognizable Cheers theme song for square dancing and of course, kept the opportunity for all to sing , "you want to be where everybody knows your name".

Here are Jack's notes about the new song:

John Sturgill Simpson (born June 8, 1978) ] is an American country music singer-songwriter and actor. As of February 2022, he has released seven albums as a solo artist. His first two albums, High Top Mountain and Metamodern Sounds In Country Music, were independently released in 2013 and 2014, respectively. The latter was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best American Album listed 18th on Rolling Stone's 50 Best Albums of 2014 and named among NPR's 50 Favorite Albums of 2014..Simpson released two albums in 2020 - Cutton' Grass Vol 1 and 2. The Ballad of Dood and Juanita,(with Willie Nelson) was released in August 2021 and features the song Juanita.. Simpson's style has been met with critical favor and frequent comparisons to Outlaw Country.

Our square dance version has a Tex-Mex ballad feel. We hope everyone will eventually "find Juanita again". Check it out.

The inspiration for Handy came from the song Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart), a 1981 song by the band, Ottawan. It was the band's second-biggest international hit single.

Early In The Morning is a song by British band Vanity Fare, released as a single in June 1969. It became an international hit, peaking at number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was awarded a gold disk for sales over one million.
The song reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart. In the US it peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 10 on Cash Box and number 4 on the Easy Listening Chart and was awarded a gold disc for sales over one million. In Canada it reached number 10 on RPM Magazine's RPM100 chart and number 4 on the RPM Adult chart.

Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime has been covered by many artists over the years, but the one most recognizable is by Dean Martin. His album of the same name was released in 1964 and reached number 2 on the albums chart and obtained Gold certification. Caller Dan Nordbye makes a guest appearance at the Silver Sounds microphone and offers a smooth version of this classic song.

Jack's notes:
Huey "Piano" Smith is an American rhythm and blues pianist whose sound was influential in rock and roll. He hit the Billboard charts with several singles in succession, including a breakout Top Five R&B hit entitled "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu". The record sold over one million copies, achieving gold disc status. In 1958. Ace Records released several more singles from 'Huey "Piano" Smith and the Clowns', including their most famous single, released in 1958, "Don't You Just Know It" hit number 9 on the Billboard Pop chart and number 4 on the Rhythm and Blues chart.

Here are Jack's notes on the song:

What's In A Kiss was written and performed by Gilbert O'Sullivan, a songwriter best known for his early 1970s hits "Alone Again (Naturally)", "Clair", and "Get Down". It was his 13th UK Top 20 single. It was the also the #66 song in 1981 on the Brazil Charts.
It also charted in the Japan market during the 1980's.

Australian caller, Jeffrey Garbutt, steps up to the Silver Sounds microphone to put down a pleasing vocal to our square dance version of this pretty tune.

SSR 392 - Marianne (vocal by Mike Callahan)

Here are Jack's notes on the song:
"Mary Ann" was composed by Trinidadian calypsonian Roaring Lion (born Rafael de Leon). It was popular with steel bands and revelers during a spontaneous carnival celebration on V J Day in Trinidad in 1945, at the end of World War II. The song's lyrics allude to Mary Ann's occupation.

Spanish bandleader Xavier Cugatt recorded a version of "Mary Ann" in the late 1940s. During the 1956–57 American calypso craze, the Easy Riders, Burl Ives, and other interpreters of folk music further popularized the song, generally under the title "Marianne". Harry Belafonte recorded the track on at least three albums. "Mary Ann" continued to be a favorite with steel bands and calypso entertainers at Caribbean tourist hotels for many years.

The most popular version was recorded by Terry Gilkyson and the Easy Riders ( #4 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1957. Another version was recorded by the Hilltoppers in 1957 ( #3 on the Billboard Top 100).

Here are Jack's notes on the song...

Honey Love was recorded in the 1960's by Ernest Tubb and the Texas Troubadours. Although we find that it never charted, it was a very popular song in its day. There was even a square dance singing call by the late Bob Fisk that could be heard on most dance floors accross the U.S. during the early 1960's. In our 2021 version, callers will find a smooth instrumental along with SSD compliant choreo and a great vocal by Mike Callahan. Take a listen. And by the way, Happy 50 Years together, Mike and Wanda Callahan.

All Shook Up is a song recorded by Elvis Presley, published by Elvis Presley Music, and composed by Otis Blackwell. The single topped the U.S. Billboard Top 100 on April 13, 1957, staying there for eight weeks. It also topped the Billboard R&B chart for four weeks, becoming Presley's second single to do so, and peaked at No. 1 on the country chart as well. It is certified 2× platinum by the RIAA.
