WHAT SHELL ARE YOU SHOOTING?

As season quickly approaches, we’re curious—what shell are you going to be stuffing into the blind bag? After hunting with the HEVI X, we can safely say it will be making more than a few appearances in our blinds.

This week's is a testament to the drive of our pups. They will push themselves until they are physically unable. It is truly inspiring!

Wildfowl fan Adam Prizzi had this to say "This is Cabela, she’s the first pup I’ve owned. I got her when I was 21, trained her myself and she has taught me a lot as well. We make an annual trip out to North Dakota every year and this picture was of her last retrieve out there back in 2022 at 10 years old. She’s 12 now and has slowed down quite a bit but will keep on hunting until she can’t. With well over 1,200 retrieves she’s been the best dog I could ask for."

Time for another

This one comes from Cole Kilpatrick and had this to say about his pup "My chocolate lab Bailey retrieving a pinnie on a late October hunt here in Manitoba . By the tail end of our waterfowl season, she is routinely over the 1,000 retrieve mark as we get to work together every day at Stanley’s Goose camp. She’s 8 years old and still going like she’s 3 , full of energy drive and passion I’m lucky to have a dog like her at my side. The second photo is Bailey with a mid-September Geo-tracker band on a hen mallard taken in the Interlake region of Manitoba. I was able to talk to the waterfowl biologist from Delta, who put the band on. A very memorable bird and retrieve for Bailey.

Where's your 2024 waterfowl season destination?

With waterfowl season only 3 and a half months away for some, many duck hunters are penciling in plans to visit states far and wide to hunt. Some might even be headed to different countries. Which begs the question, where are you planning to visit for the '24-'25 season?

It's time for another ! This one comes from and he had this to say about his pup.

"This is Bam, my soul dog. He passed from bone cancer on 1/21/2022 after hunting the whole 2021/2022 season as a tripawd. This was his last retrieve in the field, and I didn't know it at the time... I wish I would've mounted that bird. In the second photo is my brother's dog Remi behind him. She has also since passed and was the best bird dog he ever had. They were our 1st and 2nd stringers... at about 8 months apart, they were close and loved to be in the blind with us rain or shine."

Bam and Remi lived awesome lives!

For hunters today, jump-shooting, pass-shooting, and other similar forms of hunting are seen as the most unethical ways to take waterfowl. However, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, those methods were seen as the most sporting. Read more here:

What Hunters Today Say is Unethical, The Hunters of Yesteryear Thought Was The Most Sporting

We're back with another , and this one will reach down into your soul. had this to say about his dog Shiner:

"This was Shiner. He was my guide dog at 2 Rivers Hunting. In 6 seasons, he picked up 10,122 birds. And was my best friend. He developed mouth cancer, and we had to put him down 3 days after his final season. He was one of those dogs you’ll wind up comparing every other dog the rest of your life to. A true once in a lifetime friend and companion. We buried him overlooking the pond where he had his first hunt, and his last."

He was able to get Shiner's last retrieve on video and had this to say.

"It was a blessing and a curse. Knowing that’s the last duck he would pick up. That was the last hunt I would have with him. I’ve heard people say “at some point you will go on your last hunt with someone, and not even know it was your last till they are gone…” That’s a blessing. Because the coming loss made that last bird almost unbearable."

Dogs truly are our best friends, and the day they go is one of the most dreaded days of our lives, but Shiner lived one hell of a life!

This week's installment of is a heartfelt message from owner Troy Fields to his pup Pearl, who passed last November. Here is what he had to say:

"This is a portrait of "Pearl" done by Kenneth Laird. Pearl passed away this past Nov at age 11. She was truly what a Labrador retriever should be in my eyes. A great family dog, great companion and great hunter. My good friend Jon Ketchum commissioned Ken to do this piece for me in memory of her. She loved her work and worked hard at what she loved. she left us with 1,149 retrieves, all completed to hand and most being in the Atlantic Ocean. She was loved by all who knew her, hunter or not."

What a great way to honor Pearl's memory!
