According to the Salt Therapy Association, salt therapy—also known as halotherapy—has origins dating back to the salt mines and caves of Eastern Europe and Russia. 🧂🗺️

Today, the idea of inhaling salt-enriched air via salt therapy is thought by some to improve respiratory wellness, along with skin and sleep quality. 😴

At Pink Lounge: Dry Salt Therapy in Kentwood, visitors can try salt therapy out for themselves by sinking into total relaxation through a variety of services:

The conversation around difficult family relationships usually ramps up around major holidays, when we're more likely to be at the table with an array of relatives, all with their own personalities and (often conflicting) beliefs. 🗯️

But, many people—women especially—struggle year-round with certain family members, whether it's a parent or sibling, or someone more extended.

To unpack this issue, we talked with Dr. Ronald DeVries, a fully licensed psychologist at Pine Rest https://westmichiganwoman.com/relationships/3577-toxic-family-members-when-to-cut-ties

"Should I? Shouldn't I? What will people think?" 💭

These are questions you may have internally asked yourself many times over the course of many years. What about? No, not some earth-shattering decision or salacious action. They're thoughts about ... wearing shorts. 🩳

Read on for why we're saying "eff it" and wearing the shorts this summer: https://westmichiganwoman.com/blog/3388-don-t-fear-the-shorts

Paleo, Carnivore, Vegan, Pescatarian, Mediterranean ... Despite the popularity of these and other diets, over 42% of Americans are obese according to the CDC. 📈

Rates of obesity-related diseases in America—such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension and type 2 diabetes—are at an all-time high. Further, we're bombarded with information that can be both daunting and confusing. What seems to be true, however, is that those of us who love a good filet should definitely be eating more plants. 🥬🫛

Come along as we explore the benefits of incorporating more plant power into your diet: https://www.westmichiganwoman.com/wellness/3370-exploring-a-plant-based-dietary-lifestyle

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing—also known as EMDR—has continued to grow in popularity in recent years.

Initially developed for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, EMDR therapy, according to Cleveland Clinic, involves moving your eyes a specific way while you process traumatic memories with a goal of healing from trauma or other distressing life experiences.

While West Michigan could certainly use more dedicated LGBTQ+ spaces, the spots we do have are excellent institutions that have persisted for a reason. 🍹🌈 Also, as judgment begins to fade and previous barriers erode, gay bars have become increasingly frequented by people of all sexualities—as long, of course, as you’re respectful.

Dr. Keli Christopher—the 2024 Brilliance Awards Woman of the Year—is a trailblazing leader dedicated to advancing STEM education for students of color. 🔬🧪

As the Founder and CEO of STEM Greenhouse, she champions the belief that nurturing curiosity in STEM leads to flourishing children. 💜
