Florida Panhandle Technical College in Chipley, Florida is now offering Part 1 and Part 2 of “Photography 101”, and over 40 local photographers have already attended. ‘Part 1’ is an entry-level class concentrating on definitions, demystifying DSLR’s, lenses and other equipment, debunking myths and getting photographers comfortable with stepping outside of ‘Auto’ mode on their respective cameras. Determining realistic expectations of what a camera is capable is stressed, with attendees becoming familiar with their own equipment, and new photographers getting information necessary to make their first camera purchase based on budget and need. Held on evenings and weekends, the series of instructional sessions is taught by adjunct professionals, and Part 1 and Part 2 sessions of ‘Photography 101’ last 3 hours each, at a cost of $25 each. The next Part 1 class will be on Thursday, May 10, 2018, from 5-8PM and the next Part 2 class is scheduled for Wednsday, May 9, 2018 from 5-8PM, and Part 2 attendees must first attend Part 1 of the series. Upcoming specialized classes include focus on Wedding and special event photography, Portrait photos, Real Estate photography, Landscape and Panorama photos, Drone photo and video production, Sports photography, Low-light photography, Color-correcting, Retouching and Video Editing and a special session titled “The Business End of Photography”, addressing photography as a business. Addressing how to take control of your camera in Manual Mode, shooting with purpose, utilizing ambient and artificial lighting, sports and high-speed photography, as well as drone photo and video, the curriculum addresses beginner and intermediate users, and includes best practices for photo and video. Part 2 of 'Photography 101' will be offered in the next few weeks, and will spend time in hands-on studio and exterior photographic sessions, bringing together all the elements from Part 1, including Manual Mode. Subsequent advanced classes will offer in-depth looks at the basics of processing your images in the Adobe suite programs, including Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro, with specialized sessions focusing on high-speed and sports photography, aerial images, studio and street photography, Real Estate Photography, retouching, color correction and video editing. FPTC does not accept checks, so attendees will have to pay in cash on the night of class, and should plan to arrive early to complete registration paperwork at the Learning Resource Center.
